just read through this thread, and man oh man, this is some quality posting!

It's a haphazard yet fine-tuned mix of knowledge and shitpostery.

Proud to unofficially continue the tradition of the thread that shall not be named, even though I know almost none of you unlike back in the day.

Any Roger Miller fans on HF?

What a voice that man had.
My old man worked on the Great Lakes and was gone for the shipping season when he came home at freeze up he always made a big purchase to announce his arrival. In the mid sixties he bought a huge cabinet stereo Roger Millers greatest hits was one of the three albums to come with it. Perry Como and Doris Day were the others I think. I could write the lyrics word for word of a lot of the songs .Engine Engine #9 was my favourite. Truly great singer.
Fortunately as the youngest of 6, Elvis, the Beatles stones etc records started to appear. Just cleaned out and sold the family homestead that monster was still there.

Oh man, my buddies dad had his stuff, we used to listen to “can’t roller skate in a Buffalo herd” because at 7 that song is really funny. That’s going back a good number of decades there. Wouldn’t know anything else but that song always stuck, childhood memory. What a memory lane trip seeing that title.

Tuesdays and Fridays we usually do 20-25 K, within the GTA. Saturdays or Sundays usually 50-60 a bit farther afield. For example, a couple of weeks ago we met in Erin, rode the rail trail to and around Lake Belwood, had lunch, then ride back.

Fun and good exercise, and it keeps me in shape for hockey.

There are some (younger) more serious type who will do 70-100K on a Saturday or Sunday, and some who will do an easier 30-40. But we're usually in groups of 6 to 20.
Wow. Good for you. I put a pannier on the back of my TREK Allant and ride to work most days. Round trip it's 16 km. I ride from April to Dec. every year. That's the extent of it though. I have a 9 year old boy to raise. I have somewhat of a passion for cycling, but nothing like you.

I was a trail rider for a long time. Taught my kids to ride at a real young age. I remember my son wanted to join me and his sisters for a longish ride. The kid was 3 yrs old and with a bike with no gears, he rode 10k on the trails with us that day.

Damn. Mini Beast you have there. My son has autism so he still hasn't learned to ride a bike. Starting to get the hang of a 3 wheel scooter. Hopefully one day he'll learn to ride a bike. Do you no longer ride on the trails?

Still have my bike mounted on my garage wall but I stopped riding a few years ago for no real reason other than I somehow got busy with other stuff. I do miss it. Maybe next year after a major bike tuneup.

Is he a blues guitarist or country singer?
Singer songwriter with one of the best voices in history.
His little museum in Erick, OK is a must stop on the Routre 66 tour. I would clssify him as country.

If you want Blues, I’d highly recommend a detour through the Mississippi Delta and the MS Blues Tour and see what Blues is all about. You will meet some of the the best people on this planet.

I bet I’ve sung parts of a Roger song every week of my life since I was 10. Literally I don’t look at the Moon on a clear night and not sing the moon is high and so am I, the stars are out and so will I ….be pritty soon .

I might sing Kansas Star every time I get groceries.

Kids are home all day except when they have camps and stuff.

So...the answer is annoying as shit.

Have you tried a ten day road trip with them maybe? Take it up another notch. I mean, been good and all overall, but it’s close quarters and not a lot of off time.

Still have my bike mounted on my garage wall but I stopped riding a few years ago for no real reason other than I somehow got busy with other stuff. I do miss it. Maybe next year after a major bike tuneup.

I think the answer to busy with stuff is in the first reply. The kids really cut down the down time. Mine are both in competitive hockey, which probably isnt all that rare around here, and not even relatively that high a level, but man, hockey season is a scheduling mind f***.

Last night in PEI here, good late fire after rain all day. 12h of driving tomorrow to a Park in Quebec overnight and then home to Hogtown.

Not busy with kids anymore. That 3yr old boy is now following around a girlfriend. He is now my 6'5" 19 year old.

Just snagged a monthly rehearsal spot down at Rehearsal Factory Etobicoke..... Since COVID all but that location shut down and it was impossible to find. So happy won't have to deal with hourly rooms anymore...tho Groove Room was pretty dope.
Anyone else here play? Jam? Hit the electric triangle?
I play mainly jazz type keyboards (organ, synths, EP's) as well as several hand drums (darbuka, bongos, djembe, frame) and some very pedestrian kit drums. I played guitar for about 25 years but had to give it up because of focal dystonia.

I don't enjoy spending time with my family enough to take them on a road trip. Full stop.

I have the sweetest kid in the world but COVID broke me as a parent. That's no exaggeration.

very honest and sobering.
Honestly, I feel so ashamed and selfish typing that, but it's true.

I have a child that is wonderful but due to the isolation is very attached to her parents, and my wife suffered a traumatic back injury when my child was 9 weeks old (which understandably so has given her emotional trauma), so I have needed to be literally all sources of physical labor for years. Every few minutes, without fail, no matter whether I was on the clock or not...people would be calling for me and needing my attention. All day, every day. We get very little help from the outside and for a period of time we got absolutely none.

I just got burned out. My soul, my life force, is just gone. It is extremely hard for me to find joy, and I've become an automaton in order to survive. My wife is healing physically but the damage has been done for both of us. We never argued before COVID but we argue often now...we are just burned out. We don't give up though, we might have to turn into robots but we don't give up. I haven't lost my work ethic at work at all, I look forward to work. Work to me is a vacation.

I know there are many people far worse off than us. But I'm burned out and I think that's fair.

I think it's very healthy that you are recognizing and admitting your feelings.

Things change - sometimes for the worse, other times for the better.

You sound like an amazing person.
