Why?! This storm looks like a monster.

His house is 4 miles inland and 64' above sea level. Water isn't an issue, just wind and he's all boarded up.

The barrier islands are in the most danger, and anything right along inlets, like Tampa Bay or rivers. But at least in Pinellas county, when you come across the causeways to the mainland there's a rise in elevation and then again from where the bridges end to the center of the county.

If he lived where Armourboy's uncle did, he'd have to go. In fact my cousins all left because they're lower, but one of them owns a cabin a few counties north and east that they can all go to, or they'll go to hotels in Orlando depending on the forecasted track.

Also looks now look maybe Sarasota is more likely to take the biggest impact, still 40+ hours until landfall, so a lot can change in that time.

Well and keep in mind that while its a Cat 5 now its supposed to hit some wind shear as it approaches Florida and should drop down to more like a Cat 3. If you are inland and boarded up you can ride that out usually. Now if that shear doesn't hold up its going to be a mess.

Local reporters are saying it'll hit south of the skyway.

Still, looked up my old house and it's zone C which just went under evacuation orders. My dad is zone E, it would have to be a direct hit from the storm of the century for E to evacuate.

Looks like my family and friends will be just fine, 60-75mph gusts but minimal surge there. Eye wall is heading for Manatee county and may even be down to a strong Cat 2 when it lands, but they're looking at 6-9ft surge vs the 15 foot potentially had it maintained strength and came straight into the bay.

Yeah not to start the fight again but the Doc had some strong disagreements with many here due to a global event a few years back that probably has resulted in him putting people on ignore and vice versa.

I am missing the aurora in Milwaukee! Somebody posted a picture from my kids' old elementary school yard, of it. My wife and I went to Hawaii for a vacation. You can't see it at 22 degrees North latitude.

My wife says that it looks prettier in Wisconsin. She is on Facebook. I did not leave her behind.
