The barrier islands are a rough place to be in a storm. That area is lucky that it's never had a direct hit, but obviously even a passing storm can create enough surge to cause havoc there. And driving out of Pinellas county is bad enough on any normal day with great weather, trying to evacuate in a hurricane is an absolute nightmare.
TBH they haven't ever had too much issue there luckily. He put pictures of the cars on Facebook. The sand line on the cars were at the door handles so it was pretty dang deep. Luckily they live higher up in their condo so flooding as far as living area isn't an issue.

Also don't know if we have anyone around here from East TN and Western NC, but if there are I hope you and your families are ok. That area is a mess and if you are planning to go east over the next several months you better do some checking on alternate routes. I know several bridges and even some of the interstates got washed out.

Yes...I just got home from a Florida vacation and it's crazy...just wind down there. Y'all (and east of TN of course) got it much worse than we did. Hope everyone is OK!

Yeah, that area is a mess. A long time Pred fan who lives in Knoxville posted a picture that I don't think is her house but just nearby. Vantage point was front porch looking out into a lake. It's going to take awhile to get back to livable conditions, much less normal!

My mom is back from the hospital. We spent three hours making sure that all the pills in pill container are straight, she hadn’t slept in three days. I was sleeping, but not feeling it. Also my MS was kicking my ass. If she OD, I blame God.

I can relate to getting the pills straight. Every week I spend about 15 minutes restocking mine. They aren't all prescription but they were either prescribed or encouraged by my docs. (Vitamin D3 to help with the thyroid, Macutene for my multiple eye issues, for example) It's a challenge sometimes. I hope you both get some rest.

Some people internalize, some are vocal. As long as you both get what you need it's okay. I am more vocal about what's bothering me than my sister. She's stoic, you don't know what's wrong til it's bad. I will let people know that my elbow hurts or whatever. It will not come as a shock to them. Ha!

We are in Vancouver. Gas is S4.64 by my math (1.659 per liter). I filled up in Milwaukee for $2.65 before I left.

Troy Grosenick is out for the season with a knee injury. He was supposed to play for the Wild.

It's about the same here. I saw $2.59 but most are same as yours. I've always wanted to go to Vancouver. Quite a few of our former animators live in the area. It's a film and animation hotspot.

Too bad for Troy, even though I hate the Trophy Team I do like him.

If anyone doesn't realize Tennesseans are smarter than Georgians, that's the giant signs you see when you get on a GA interstate.

The first time Carrie Underwood gave her number to Mike Fisher he didn't call her for a year so she gave it to him again. Now that's playing hard to get! ;)

Yeah they are coming up Tuesday to stay with my parents.

My dad is staying, he was boarding up his windows when I called him this morning, but he lives off of Alt 19 (Seminole Blvd if you're familiar). He was telling me that all the shops at John's Pass were flooded from Helene and you can barely get around Treasure Island already, now Milton is coming in.

St. Pete Beach has shut off water service in anticipation of the sand and soil shifting, most Pinellas Co schools were cancelled this week last time I looked, perhaps all are now. When I lived there even when a Cat 3 was forecast for the area (shifted) they never cancelled school.

I don't wish a hurricane on anyone, and feel bad for wanting it to hit "the other guy" but I really hope something happens with the path and it doesn't hit that area.

Yeah they live in a Condo on Sand Key and the Sea Wall broke last time and I have no idea if they even got it rebuilt or not. If not I'd imagine it would be even worse this go around. From what he said they still hadn't gotten the damage cars from Helene moved out yet.

He just bought a new car a few days ago and I think most of him heading out is he doesn't want to risk a third car in the matter of a couple of weeks. Plus they always lose power on Sand Key and I imagine he doesn't feel like messing with it again.

Why?! This storm looks like a monster.

His house is 4 miles inland and 64' above sea level. Water isn't an issue, just wind and he's all boarded up.

The barrier islands are in the most danger, and anything right along inlets, like Tampa Bay or rivers. But at least in Pinellas county, when you come across the causeways to the mainland there's a rise in elevation and then again from where the bridges end to the center of the county.

If he lived where Armourboy's uncle did, he'd have to go. In fact my cousins all left because they're lower, but one of them owns a cabin a few counties north and east that they can all go to, or they'll go to hotels in Orlando depending on the forecasted track.
