Yeah essentially the same thing for me. My nearest friend was probably a 20 minute drive? Closest town to me was Unionville, and by town I mean the post office was the size of a pack of gum and it had 2 gas stations, which were more like general stores and then a school that went from K-12.

My friend lived in Rover, which actually had a general store back then and a few houses. Unionville was going to town comparatively. Shelbyville was probably 20-30 minutes away depending on where you started from.

Now my dad where he grew up in NW Arkansas is even crazier than that. There still isn't anything around there today within 15 miles or so. I grew up in the big city compared to him. The entire school, which was for the whole county, only had 62 people in it k-12.

I mean, I get it; I've subsequently visited friends who are in, shall we say, much more sparse communities. I knew better by the time I reached teenage years. But back when I could still indicate my age by holding up my own fingers, it sure felt like it.

Yeah it was the old building. Probably late 70s. I don’t remember many teachers, Ms Edmonson and Mrs Hester are 2 I do remember. Oh and Mr Daughtry, who I also had at Glencliff Elementary.

Mr Daughtry was there when I was but I didn't have him. I was in a 5th and 6th grade split class that didn't change classes. Everyone else in 6th grade would have had him.

It's pretty amazing how much Nashville has changed since I was a kid, all of Middle Tennessee really.

It used to take us nearly 2 hours to get to Antioch from Shelbyville when 231 was just a 2 lane road and the only mall Murfreesboro had was Outlets Ltd. Much of the time we would come up 41-A through Nolensville and head to the Service Merchandise. That was back when 100 Oaks Mall was the first stop we would make.

And man how do I miss the old Show Biz Pizza in Hickory Hollow.

One of the reasons I was able to stay away from the boards and Preds last year was that since 2016 I've been caretaking for my grandmother. Last year her condition got progressively worse and especially through October and November before she pass shortly after Christmas.

Since then there's been a massive cleanup project here at the house. The woman was a hoarder, just a step away from what you see on TV, as every storage space was completely full and most rooms had navigation issues, but she (and we) never had the waste issues that you see on there. It included a lot of stuff from family, over the last 70-80 years whenever family would be getting rid of items or someone died, she would take as much of it as she could. As an example, there was over 20 brooms in the closet, 16 sets of dishes, hundreds of pairs of shoes, 12 recliners, 5 storage cabinets full of candles, just crazy amounts of things that she didn't want to go to waste but most of it deteriorated over time anyway.

Since December I have been driving to the county dump three times a week and have taken over 500 bags of garbage. Family says I should just get a dumpster delivered, but that's $300/wk and it would have taken 2-3 of those, while the dump is free.

We also had an estate sale once most of the broken and soiled items were gone. We also had a series of five yard sales to move a lot of stuff that didn't go in the estate sale. Finally we had a free giveaway day and then also had a donation pickup service come twice for most of what was remaining.

Now I'm down to maybe two more trips to the dump and we'll be completely out from under her hoard. We also have all of our own belongings that we moved up from Florida when we came back to care for her and we're unpacking that now (a lot has been unseen for 7.5+ years) and sorting out what we want to keep and what to get rid of because now that this job of caretaking is done here we're looking to move out of Mid-TN again.

My Dad had to deal with something similar when my grandfather passed, although he never had to do the care taking part. They ended up pulling the stuff that friends and family wanted and then a guy paid them for everything that was left and hauled it off. Then it was just a matter of cleaning things up so they could sell the place and then we moved my grandmother down here and she is in one of those nice care facilities where she has her own room, she could keep her cat, and she has someone to look after her so Dad didn't need to drive back and forth 9 hours to Arkansas everytime a problem popped up. She's 91 and is still rolling on.

I am going to a lake on Saturday and Sunday. When I return home, I may mow the grass. It is actually turning green again after our recent downpours. We are up to about 95%, after being down to 65%.

Sunday at 4 AM, the USWNT plays Sweden. I might get up to see that game. It is win or go home.

Dishes, silverware, mugs (don't give teachers mugs, people, they won't get rid of them unless they break!), books, clothes and paper...and more paper. She had tax returns from the 80's, drawers full of obituaries, so many scrapbooks and every letter and thank you card she'd ever received. Like your grandmother's it was not filthy, it was just massive amounts of stuff with so many multiples. It took months to go through it...and then we had her parents house to go through where she'd taken her overflow stuff. My wife is finding out about this for herself. At least my MIL cleaned out her storage locker in recent years. That is one less thing to worry about. On the other hand, we have 4 large boxes in our house.

Our parallel lives continue. I have been throwing things out for a year. I will need 2 or 3 more years to get our house in condition for sale. We are thinking of buying a condo.
