Those things are cool but also a little bit scary after listening to a few interviews with Randall Carlson. Passing through the Torrid meteor stream twice a year is basically us participating in a demolition derby and praying we don't get hit too hard. If yall haven't seen it look up the videos of the last kind of scary one that exploded above Russia in 2013.

I remember that one.
I have gone out into the country specifically to see the perseid showers (are they the ones in November?) and never actually saw them when they were supposed to happen. But I have seen the errant meteor here and there. A fireball showed up over Hermitage a few months back. People on the interstate saw it really well and apparently it was pretty spectacular but did no damage. I didn't see it, just saw it on Hip Hermitage so you can imagine the conversation. "Was that a gunshot?"

We pass through the Torrid meteor stream twice a year although I can't recall when the two windows are. I know pretty much all of the more recent major incidents have fallen in those windows including Tunguska which leveled an entire area.

So the guy currently on the TBI's mosted wanted from Shelbyville, I went to church with his parents ( his dad is Judge Rich in Shelbyville). His grandfather was my mom's doctor when I was a kid.

Story is the dude was a bad apple from the start and his Dad kept getting him out of it.

The last time I went to the Wisconsin State Fair, it was olives. I bought a stick for my wife, who is crazy about olives. She could only eat half of it. Probably the breading and the oil made it 2000 calories.
 
I was reading some NHL Rumors story from the Last Word on Sports by a guy named Colton Osmund, dept manager. It had rumors about the Preds, "who are confused and did not make the playoffs in 2020-21."

I guess that I must have dreamed about those 6 games against Carolina!!!

The Twin Falls at Rock Island state park. The falls were really cool to see up close. It's a little bit of a challenge to get down there as you have to manage climbing over and through large rocks but worth it. If you're in Middle Tennessee, you should set aside a few hours and go down to the park and check them out. I spent an hour or so there.

Used to love going to Rock Island state park as a kid. They used to have a rope swing somewhere down there and a couple spots you could cliff jump. Been a long time since I’ve been down there so who knows if they still let you do that.
 
Thanks for sharing these. We really need to check out a lot more of the local nature spots as opposed to continually heading over to East TN/West NC. Planning to hike Mt. LeConte over Labor Day weekend. I'm just hoping for good weather.

If you decide to make the trip to see Twin Falls set your GPS to Power House Road in Walling TN. Once you're on that road, it will dead end at a small parking lot where the falls are. Just follow the short trail and you'll see an opening in the trees directly across from the falls. From there, you can climb down to the rocks to eventually get right across from the falls themselves. Wear hiking shoes or boots, be very careful and take your time. The falls aren't going anywhere and your body will thank you.

I went to Burgess Falls today but you can't go to the base of these falls from the trail. It's a sheer drop down into the gorge from the trail. The most you could do is take a trail down to the river and walk to the top of the falls and look down. I got as close to the edge as possible until my sense of mortality kicked in. It would be nice to be at the base and look up but I guess there is another way, maybe by kayaking upstream in the river? The water in the river right now is lower than at Twin Falls with a lot of dry spots that you could walk on and explore some of the river bed above the falls.
