I was just reading about the 1992 expansion draft where Poile, who was the Caps GM at the time, signed a 40 year old retired NHL goalie, Bernie Wolfe, who was working as a financial advisor at the time, in an attempt to circumvent the draft. Pretty funny story.

I was in one a few years ago in Milwaukee at the 128th ARW. That is a 707 sized plane!
That was a big attraction for him. Similar airframe to the commercial airliners.

Hes actually going straight into the reserves so he will probably fly corporate jets as his regular job and then move to the big planes when he finishes his 10 year AF commitment.

Completely off topic, on August 16th I got a fat tire E-Bike. Aventon Aventure. Been riding the crap out of it. Started with a short 8.5 mile ride and my butt and legs were sore. Now I'm usually doing 30 - 45 miles a day split into 2 rides with little soreness at all. Only missed one day while bike was getting brakes bled and some upgrades. I'm peddling all except the downhills and am even got to 39 MPH on one downhill with peddling and that was not at the highest peddle assist mode. That was scary enough. I no longer have the 'need for speed'. At the 3 week mark, almost to the hour the display showed that I hit the 500 mile mark! For a 67 year old man that's not bad. Hadn't been on a bike in decades.

According to the Strava app yesterday I did a 22.91 mile ride in 90 minutes with an elevation gain of 1562 feet. Average speed 15.2 mph with max speed of 35.6 mph.

Stayed with a good friend for about a week over the 4th and got to ride one of her friends E-Bike, a commuter version not fat tire, for a few hundred yards and saw the benefit. Did research and got one.

Me at the Unaka Mountain Overlook. According to Garmin I gained 1476 feet in 5.9 miles on a rough gravel Forest Service road and both the bike an I were maxed out.

I filled up for $3.48 today. The total was just over $20.

What I can't figure out is my mileage. Last time it was 37 mpg, this time it was 36 mpg in a 2010 Corolla.

Maybe because I put 88 octane gas in a few times instead of 87?

I once got 39 mpg when my car was new and I had a tailwind from Chicago to Indy.

Normal summer mileage is 32 mpg. In the winter, it is 28 or 29 thanks to the thick air up here.

Have fun Adz
I'm excited about it. My sister is definitely taking me out of my comfort zone, though. We have a 6.5 hour layover in London before we go to Switzerland. She's hellbent on taking a train out of Heathrow and seeing...sights, something Paddington something... Left to me I'd simply enjoy the accent and different monetary system in the airport. She's more savvy around strange spots, though. I'll be nervous but I'll roll with it. I may end up in Paris.

@adsfan My mileage fluctuates all the time.

@PredsV82 It was 3.06 at my Thorntons. It usually falls anyway after Labor Day. Oil companies put in an additive during summer months that raises the price, then they sell off cheaper in the fall so they don't have to burn it off. Apparently it doesn't work well with cooler temps.

@adsfan that may actually be why your mileage has fluctuated so--maybe your summer gas has already been replaced and you get better mileage without the additive. I'd guess northern states are replaced before southern states since it'll be warm here for longer.

Enjoy Heathrow and/or London. When I was there in 2009, the Harrod's stuff on sale at the airport, like chocolate, was still expensive.

I heard the train runs every 15 minutes for the 15 minute ride. It runs $35 one way.
I would suggest Hyde Park and the Flower Walk thru Kensington Gardens. You have to walk over the hill at the west end from Kensington Palace. to get to the Flower Walk. You will see Royal Albert Hall across the street to the south as you walk.

We have summer gas, but we also have ozone abatement (E10) year round. That has more to do with Lake Michigan than local industry, as ozone pools over lakes and ours is #6 in the world. The 88 octane is E15 gas.
The point is my mileage is not normally this high.

Just came back from a rainy road trip in time for a Packers game. Found a gas station for $3.24 on the way home.

There are small limbs all over my patio. Must have been some nasty north winds while we were gone.

$2.99 gas at multiple stations in Hendersonville.

I just spent a week in PA and their gas was still almost $4.
PA is always like 0.40 more expensive than Maryland... must be some extra state tax or something, I always plan to fill up before crossing into PA if I can. :dunno:

With that kind of layover you should be able to see quite a bit surface level. I'd probably head out to Tower Hill so you can get a quick view of Tower Bridge and Tower of London then work your way back to Westminster. From there you can easily see Big Ben/Parliament/London Eye and then could walk up to Trafalgar Square, over to Buckingham Palace, and then back towards the station and pass Westminster Abbey. Would be the quick super surface area tourist stuff but I'll bet you could get all of that done in 3 hours or so round trip.

Also I'm really jealous. :)
