He's only good off the rush or standing still waiting for the puck to arrive on his stick. When the puck is in the offensive zone he just circles around. Sure those guys are inconsistent too, everyone is, but at least they can do other things when they aren't scoring.

Most guys are off the rush scorers I don't see how that is a downfall

Stewart is an offensive weapon I don't think we need him to play every facet of the game perfectly. He is a better option than hemsky or havlat who also aren't two way but Atleast Stewart is younger has a better shot selection and plays well infront of the net. Something a lot of our players don't do. No more neil infront of the net

Truth be told, watching Berglund in Olympics, he was easily one of the team's best players. The guy was speedy and played awesome all over the ice.

I know he has a tendency to not try his best sometimes but I really think St. Louis is not the proper fit for him and he'd excel in a more offensive oriented team. If he can play LW, I'd welcome a Berglund addition. Could be a better version of Foligno.

I also firmly believe we can find a way to get Eriksson on this team.

Sign Boyle/Robidas
Trade for Eriksson
Trade Spezza to Anaheim for W.Karlsson, Etem, 1st

MacArthur-Turris-Ryan
Eriksson-Zibanejad-Etem
Lazar-DaCosta-Stone/Hoffman
Condra-Smith-Neil

Methot-Karlsson
Cowen-Boyle/Robidas
Wiercioch-Ceci

Anderson
Lehner

If Zibanejad breaks out... Dat looks like playoff team.

Lol, he's most likely 13th forward.

What I primarily wanna see Ottawa do is take this off-season seriously and not just try to get assets they need rather best possible assets, in general.

Wiercioch+Spezza for Berglund+Shattenkirk+Rattie

Shattenkirk+Grant for Eberle

Sign Boyle/Robidas

MacArthur-Turris-Ryan/Eberle
Berglund-Zibanejad-Eberle/Ryan
Hoffman-DaCosta-Stone

Methot-Karlsson
Cowen-Boyle
Phillips-Ceci
Boro

Looks good and doable.

Not including Phillips in the roster is THE most unrealistic part of this post

I have no problem taking a chance on Stewart as long as the price isn't much more than prince &/or Greening.

This organization can cure him, especially in the fitness department. It has the potential to be a Turris like trade. A worthy gamble.

Bringing Boyle home for his last run would be a good move depending on salary. He'd be a great mentor for weirioch and ceci, add some leadership to the group in the process.

Hopefully the kings take out the ducks tonight, putting a little more pressure on the ducks to get spezza. Get our pick back and smith-pelley, he and zib will make a very good 2nd line that crashes and scores.

My prediction! Ottawa trades Spezza for a winger, and signs both Havlat and Boyle on July 1st, if not sooner.

MacArthur-Turris-Ryan
XXX-Zibanejad-Havlat
Hoffman-Pageau/SDC-Stone
Greening-Smith-Neil

Methot-Karlsson
Cowen-Boyle
Phillips-Ceci

I like the trade with Anaheim you are proposing - that's for sure. Hope we can get that kind of return. I'd love to land W Karlsson.

In terms of trading for Loui Eriksson, I really don't see this as a great move. Even though he is only 28, he has really been going downhill. If it was a bit of a fire sale - say only cost us Wiercioch - I'd be open to that, but they gave up quite a bit to get him, and I don't see Chiarelli selling low at this time on him. They'll likely ask for Stone or Lazar back for Eriksson.

Finally, the amount of salary you have added to this team is not realistic, mostly due to the depth we already have on D. Eriksson makes $4.5M, and then you signed a UFA a lot of teams will have interest in, further adding another $4M+ or so most likely. And then you have guys like Phillips and Boro not playing, and that is $3M+ in the press box. Perhaps you had Boro going to Boston in the Eriksson deal, but either way, Phillips is going to be part of the top 6, so you might as well accept that and pencil him in. Actually, Boro and Phillips at 6/7 is the likely scenario regardless of what we do with Spezza.

I would like to get a player like Berglund back in any Spezza deal. I'm not confident that Z-bad is ready for 2nd line duties full time and would prefer to keep him insulated a bit, especially with the increased pressure that will fall to Turris as well.

I'd like to add Boyle but my money is on him going back to Tampa Bay. They desperately need help on D and he won a Cup there. If we had some money to go after him, then I'd be less convinced but, alas...

I agree it would be ideal to get another center back, but I'd much prefer Jaden Schwartz. I realize the Blues will more readily move Berglund, but I'd rather sacrifice anything else that would be included with Berglund, to just get Schwartz - even straight up. So even if they offered Berglund and a 1st, I'd rather have Schwartz.

Bergund is solid, but is basically a 3rd liner when it comes down to it. At least if you are planning on being a contender he is. Schwartz has top 2 line upside (he already is close to Turris' level), and along with Lazar and Zibanejad (either or both of who might end up on the wing), I feel confident we would have to solid scoring line centers in the short and long-term, and more than likely have center as a major strength post-Spezza, for a very long time.

Realistically, Shattenkirk or Oshie has to be the main piece coming back for a potential Spezza trade with the Blues.

I would puke if we traded him for Rattie, Berglund and a 20s pick in a not so good draft.

I think the Stewart trade undermines the Spezza trade. If we trade Spezza, that signals a retool or a rebuild, while Stewart costs futures.

stewart is young

spezza is being moved cause he has had a enough with ottawa

I think that is the trade that BM insinuated he wanted a "harder forward".
Wants change from season to season and though BM will likely still want a forward like Stewart, a UFA-to-be sounds like a poor target. It depends on what the purpose of trading Spezza is, a rebuild or a rebalance?
he's being moved because the team doesn't want him at the price it's going to cost to keep him long-term.
Hard to say without the sides letting us know, but without Spezza, it's hard to know how the season will go and so going after players that can bolt after a year sounds risky.
stewart is young
Wouldn't stop him from testing free agency if he wanted.

Re-balance with the budget in mind as well. I just thought of Stewart as there were a lot clues already that he's interested in him. Although I personally would not get Stewart. He's the opposite of what this team needs.
