I think Fabbri would be a great fit with the Sens, although I also think it would be good to continue with the trend of drafting talented swedes and go for william nylander.

What do you guys think about signing Dan Boyle to a nice little retirement contract on UFA day? If this happened one of Wier or Gryba would have to go IMO, but the group would be much improved and I think could be really dangerous if motivated.

Methot - Karlsson
Cowen - Ceci
Phillips - Boyle
Gryba

PP
Boyle/Ceci - Karlsson

I favour going with the vets, and I'm one of the few who don't hate the Phillips signing. I think that would be a solid pairing especially come playoff time. He could offer that same steady play Gonchar did that we missed so much this year, while also locking it down on D like one of the best. Now obviously its not too realistic, but I think we need another vet back there to take care of our own zone. Brad Stuart? Johnny Boychuk? Barrett Jackman? What would it take to add someone of that calibre through trade?

We dont need more maybe 2nd liners.

Spezza (1)
Ryan (1)
Turris (4)
Clarke (1)
Zibanejad (5)
Stone (5)
Puempel (6)
Hoffman (2)
Lazar (7+)

Those are the players in our system with top 6 potential, and the amount of years remaining is in brackets. We still need more 2nd liners. The only guaranteed top 6er we have signed for more than one year is Turris.

I wouldn't mind picking up Boyle but I think getting rid of Wiercioch would be a bad move long term, I almost prefer him to Boyle as is.

Out of the three names you listed I'd definitely like Boychuk the most but I think the asking price may be a little high, especially since Boston most likely wouldn't like any of our smaller assets with the style of game they play. Maybe if we could centre the trade around Cowen it could work. Jackman would be a decent pick up but I would stay away from Brad Stuart, I've heard bad things about him from San Jose fans.

I'd say Zibanejad is pretty much a guaranteed top 6 player if he's given the opportunity but I agree with your point. No such thing as too many assets.

Sure we need more 2nd liners but we got enough potential top 6ers(I'd add Pageau, Dzingel and perhaps some players from upcoming drafts to that list).

A top 12 pick will be pricey and it wont add to a weakness.

i think a young (potential) top 6 forward (Jenner, Wennberg, Rattie, Jaskin, Etem?) is a priority and a short term defensemen (Markov Boyle Timonen)

We have the most potential on Defense in Cowen karlsson weir Ceci and we also have Boro signed for next year. But i wouldnt mind signing a short term fix to help these guys along

IF Spezza id dealt i think we will want forwards back as listed above

I actually thought you were talking about acquiring one through trade, I agree it doesnt make much sense to trade into the top 12. Maybe if we see a guy in the 20 range who we really like, we make that move. Only other way we get a high pick is through a Spezza deal, imo.

Confirming the obvious?

Would teams still in the playoffs be talking trade? If not, it narrows it down to: Edmonton, Winnipeg, Nashville, Phoenix, Dallas, Blues and Avs.

I doubt they would be talking trade, but certainly would still be actively working phones and emails. I'm sure LA, Minnesota, Anaheim and Chicago are well aware that Spezza is available to them and if they're interested, they probably would have made it known.

I wonder if Calgary would be in on Spezza too. Burke loves big trades.

Calgary is rebuilding and clearly focusing on the draft. They have no need for Spezza atm and shouldn't be looking for that kind of trade.

Any trade that would speed up the rebuild Burke would love to do, based on his MO and past history. Now that he's not the man in charge who knows.

That's probably true, but Spezza's no trade clause list of teams almost certainly includes Calgary.

Spezza would be nothing more than an expensive stop gap for them.

Speeding up the rebuild would be targeting someone like Evander Kane.

Bob McKenzie just confirmed that Spezza is on the market.

I don't know how I feel about that. Spezza at his worst is still a 60 point center. We cannot have Turris-Zibanejad combo if we want to make it far in the playoffs.

However, if it's for a legit 2/3 defenseman, I'd be okay with that.

Did he say who the Sens might be targeting?

Apparently Spezza told ownership/management he would "look favourably on a move". Again.

Passive-aggressive trade request I guess.

I think that is the likeliest target. I really hope we don't trade him though.
