So the Sabres are looking at the market for forwards, and defensemen, and a goalie. Informative breakdown by Dreger.
Well they did sign 11 UFA's last summer - forwards, defensemen, and goalies. So we will do the same this time. A bunch of bargain bin depth players on 2-way deals or NHL minimum.

Dreger is full of crap. I hope he proves me wrong, but every indication from what KA has said (making three 1st round picks, not blocking prospects, not rushing the process) to what he has done so far (trade for a cap dump to help reach the lower limit) indicates that it will be more of the same.

I can see it changing. Terry is a fan like us. He may have caught the winning bug at the end of last season and may want to speed things up. And we know who pulls the strings.

Honestly I hope next season they take incremental steps to making the playoffs, then go hard at making it the year after.

I almost died when Chad said that Jame is going to be PO'd that he didn't trade for Gibson.

I didn't want to listen to this last night because even though they did a good job with the first version of not making it long winded, it still felt long winded.

Listened to this version today during my daughters swim practice. I was laughing out loud. Very entertaining just from a non-hockey point of view even.

The Bill Zito and Crazy Ron Hextall voices by Anthony and the Jame call out were worth the time to me.

RE: Dreger and forwards

Could we be wrong to think that KA is not willing to change the makeup of the team through trades this summer?

I think we all think they’ll trade Olofsson if they can find the right deal and can line up replacement production. Not saying we all agree with it. That alone creates a big hole that creates a ripple effect.

Its also possible that Granato sees what a player like Tuch does for a line of guy who’s never produced and guy who everyone thought was washed and they want to reconstruct lines down the roster.

in short….I think they’re open to a lot of things because they should be.

I don’t get the Dreger hate? Sabres news he’s broke since Kevyn Adams hired:

- Granato hired as permanent coach
- Karmanos hired
- Hall signing
- Hall trade
- Risto trade (sort of - he indicated that it’s trending in the direction of getting another 1st)
- Eakin signing
- Staal to Buffalo trade

"Its rumored that buffalo may want Campbell, but we also have no idea if buffalo wants Campbell "

Lol

Hes got some connection, but there's a lot of down time when nothing's out there, so he blows smoke.

Hes got some conscience against blatant fake news I guess, because whenever hes winging it, he always seems to present it in an incredibly vague manner

Not that I don’t believe you - but is there an example for this? I know he had a major flub a couple years ago with Sorokin to CHI. But I would say for the most part he’s been accurate. I don’t listen to his spot on The Instigators that often so he could do this kind of stuff a lot - I just haven’t seen/heard it.

He's got a source in the NHL offices. No doubt.

But as far as rumors go? NO ONE has a source inside Buffalo's front office anymore. He's just spouting what he thinks the Sabres should do or could do and saying "I've heard" in front of it

He doesn’t necessarily need to hear the rumors from KA himself. He definitely talks to other GMs and agents (probably moreso the latter). I would think that he gets a fair amount of intel from agents in regards to potential interest from teams.

I’m definitely open to being wrong about this though. I just haven’t got that impression from Dreger.

We really don’t know what they will do. They have the assets to do a lot of things. Most assume they won’t be very aggressive or spend much (Bishop trade possible evidence of that). But ultimately we have no idea.

I actually don’t even want them to be aggressive this year. Add a goalie of course. Add a rhd...yes. Want to get a veteran forward in there…sure. But I’d rather play this year out integrating some really really important rookie pieces to something that finally started working…and then after this year is over have a better idea of where your players fit, who they are, and what you need. Then go crazy.

Judicious application of assets seems like the best path to forge this summer. They can't be meager and they have said they leaned toward being frugal. So that leaves a targeted acquisition or two but nothing out of the ordinary and certainly not extravagant in nature.

To further that......nothing indicates that ANYONE has the pulse on the Sabres or Adams.

They've locked that ship down real tight.
That was the point I was going to make. There just does not seem to be anyone in the media that is one degree or two degrees separated from anyone close to those inner conversations. Trade stuff I think comes out of agent offices, so that is why we would hear about Eichel. But even that took Peter's connection to the Tuch family either through the brother or a close friend of the Tuchs.

I think these bigger hockey markets (Canadian), there is way more fluidity between a teams front office and the media people. More holes to plug.

Buffalo's best bet is for the former Instigators now that they are no longer employees of the Sabres to get more of this stuff. But they are not really trained journalists, so it's hit and miss, and they still hold back it seems.
