9. P.K. Subban, Devils

Subban no longer has his fastball and can’t be depended on to be a top-four defenseman, but a reduction in role last year showed he can still drive play further down the depth chart. His plus-0.08 expected goal differential per 60 relative to teammates was his highest in five years. Something between $2 and $2.5 million should be fine.

If the Sabres are in on Subban, he won't cost an arm and a leg, it would appear.

Reactions: Team Cozens

For all of those that wanted to see a Cozens WC reuinion, we may just have a chance at that

I'd be very leery of PLD at this point. After he basically forced his way out of Columbus, and now basically telling the Jets he doesn't want to play there either. Kind of makes you wonder where his priorities are. He's admittedly played poorly on purpose at points. Don't need that kind of poison in the locker room.

With him wanting out after 23-24, I doubt the Sabres have any interest.

If he moves, it will be to a Win Now type team.

look at the roster in 2024 summer

i agree. I think he sees Winnipeg losing players the next 2 years

with all the rumors of winnipeg's locker room being a toxic mess, i'm not gonna fault anyone for wanting out of there. i agree that it raises some concerns about PLD, but yeah, that org sounds like a mess right now

I agree, we don't need a player who constantly wants to escape somewhere, this is not for Adams.

The guy literally ran away from Columbus and just didn't want to play, I don't see what would stop him from doing the same in Buffalo. I don't see Adams going after PLD.

Not sure what Winnipeg would be looking for in exchange for Hellybucyk but I'd definitely move Devon Levi and 2 1sts for him.

So he didn't get along with John Tortorella (Shock!), got moved to WPG, who have now forced out Maurice - the coach he DID get along with (as well as quite likely moving on from his Dad, Eric who was Paul's guy...), and are now teetering on the edge of a retool/rebuild w the open shopping of numerous core vet guys...

Hard to blame the kid for wanting more if he can help it.

I for one, would LOVE to see what he could do long-term under Donny with Quinn or even Cozens on his wing (a la WHC).

Roll the dice Kevyn...

"The FA chatter out there with Campbell and The Sabres continues" - Dreger on Instigators just now

Right after this he mentioned the Sabres are going to be a very interesting team, and also mentioned if Calgary cannot get Johnny hockey re signed...

I agree with this - if he's available, Buffalo should be in on it. I don't know what it takes to get a deal done, but Winnipeg traded Laine, Roslovic and a 3rd for him so I doubt Isaak Rosen and a 2nd gets it done. Nevertheless, if Winnipeg decides they have to rebuild, they might take some combination of picks and prospects, which Buffalo does have to spare. But, the kid just turned 24 (today - HBD to PLD) and he's good. Buffalo needs forwards. It would be surprising if they aren't in the mix.

And what happens when Donny asks him to do something he doesn't want to do? Is he going to pout and mail it in? What if Donny decides to move on in a couple of seasons? Also if he's dead set on becoming a UFA why would you waste assets on that when this team is not ready to compete for the playoffs yet?

Dreger on Instigators mentioned KA/Sabres are looking at FA for goaltending (Jack Campbell specifically). I'm sure KA is reluctant to give up assets right now at this stage.

PLD chemistry with Cozens for Canada HAD to make an impression at Key Bank Center.

Dreger loves to put Sabres into rumors. If I'm spending big, its on Forsberg, not Johnny G

I think Forsberg is excellent but he's going to get a contract a team is going to regret. His shooting percentage floated around 13% for 7 years (not counting his first 2 seasons of 18 total games). This season he shot over 18%. That to me screams unsustainable, and in fact even with this past seasons 18.6% his career average is only 12.9%. He scored 13 goals more than he would have at his career average. His career high was also 64 points until this season where he scored 84. Much like JT Miller and Kadri, I have my doubts that this past season will suddenly become his new norm.

At 7 million I'd say that's a good contract, but at 9 or 9.5 as some people are projecting I think someone ends up with buyers remorse.
