that's a weird take.

Springer is a good CF. Gurriel is a good LF. Hernandez is a passable RF who has made strides and he can be spelled by Grichuk, who is a solid defensive OF at any position.

Ok sure, the Rowdy/Vlad combo isn't going to be stellar at 1st, but it's still just 1st. Semien should be elite at 2nd, Bichette good to very good at short, Biggio one would hope is at least average at 3rd given time to adjust. Jansen has morphed from a bat-first catcher to a solid defensive catcher still looking to find his bat at the major league level. Kirk is supposed to be passable behind the plate, or at least better than you'd expect. and McGuire is a glove-first catcher.

I would say at worst the defence shoule be average. At it's best it should be pretty good given the guys playing the key positions. There's no way I can figure this to be "the worst defence in baseball"

I mean they were a bottom 5 defense in both the OF and INF last year by statcast's OAA, and really haven't changed all that much. Springer is an upgrade over Grichuk in CF, but not one that pushes them from bottom 5 OF defense to middle of the pack. The only way the Jays dramatically improve their OF defense is if Grichuk plays RF over Teoscar, but that presents it's own set of problems. With respect to the infield I don't really think its fair to call Bo a good to very good SS when he has rated somewhere between below average to average defensively thus far in his career. Cavan is probably a lateral move at 3B and Semien appears to be a considerable upgrade at 2B. That likely means the infield as a whole will be better, but does that shift the infield from one of the worst defensively to average? I am skeptical until I see it.

This may be an unpopular take, but I actually think the Jays best alignment defensively in the inf is Bo at 3B, Semien at SS, Cavan at 2b and Rowdy at 1B. I could see that configuration grading out as average or better.

Assuming they all reach free agency, who would you target out of Lindor, Seager, Baez, Story or Correa?

None. Between Bichette, Groshans, Martin, Biggio and Martinez the Jays are well set up on the infield moving forward. Those funds are better utilized elsewhere, IMO.

So who is the SS next year, then? Above you're already moving Bo off short and Semien has a decent chance to not be here next season.

For me, I think I'd pass on Lindor and Correa as they would be insanely expensive. But a guy like Story could be a good target and won't cost the same as those guys.

A lot hinges on this season, If Seager puts up another .900 OPS year then I lean towards him. Another thing to consider is Correa is almost a full 2 years younger than Baez and Story.

Martin and Biggio have both showed competency in the outfield. In this scenario we could package Groshans, Martinez, etc. to get a young cost controlled top of the rotation pitcher.

Next year's FAs class is stock full of experienced starters all on the wrong side of 30. Scherzer, Verlander, Cueto, Greinke, Kershaw, Morton, and Cobb are all 34 and above. You also have Stroman and Gausman at 31, who we both know probably dont want to come to Toronto. We have a ton of money coming off the books next year, why not upgrade at SS and move some assets around to turn yourself into a world series contender?

I'd take him back.

MLB breakout candidates: One player from all 30 teams who's ready to step up in 2021 season

2021 BREAKOUT CANDIDATES

Diamondbacks
Travis Bergen: Bergen showed improved velocity and spin last year, convincing the Diamondbacks to accept him as the return for Robbie Ray at the deadline. That didn't stop the D-Backs from designating Bergen for assignment. Oh well; he still might find his way into someone's bullpen, be it Arizona's or elsewhere. His fastball, up two ticks to 92 mph, is effective up in the zone thanks to its natural rise and the flat plane created by his size and release point. Bergen's breaking ball spins at a faster pace than those thrown by many high-quality starters (Gerrit Cole, Lance McCullers Jr., Max Fried), but you wouldn't have known it based on the results: He coerced only one whiff and three chases on 62 pitches. If Bergen can just flip it over the plate more frequently as a means of stealing strikes and keeping batters honest, he should be able to curb his walk rate and enhance his fastball's potency. There's modest potential here.

Invite him to camp, he can compete with Liriano and Mayza for that 2nd lefty spot

I bet the higher-ups at Rogers won't be needing viagra any time soon with these cuts to the radio broadcast. This corporation f***ing loves this shit. What an embarrassment.

At this point I wonder why they even bother owning the team. It should be a massive source of cheap content (not to mention cheap advertising for the rest of their products) to build their broadcast network around, but they routinely refuse to take advantage of it, and now they're cutting back everywhere they possibly can.

I get that this kind of stuff saves them money, but it does so at the expense of the fan experience. It's a classic case of Rogers cutting of their nose to spiderface.

That has been my preference all along too.

I’m also comfortable to say Bo with work his butt off to be an elite defensive short stop. We will see if he gets there.

But for this year only, your configuration is the best defensive alignment.

It could be called Jay's talk because it's a show that belongs to the Jays and an apostrophe shows possession. Regardless who is going to host the post game show or is it going to be cancelled?

That's still incorrect because it would have to be "Jays' Talk" in your example since it belongs to the Blue Jays as a group, not a singular person. It also is still also probably conceptually incorrect since the show is talk about the Blue Jays and not by them.

And do the other question I don't believe they've given any indication about Wilner's replacement as a post-game show host. Perhaps Wagner so he has something to do while he's not calling games this season?

Also for the people freaking out, My understanding is that the indication right now is this is a one-year thing with the dual-streamed broadcast, to limit the number of people necessary to handle broadcasting duties. I don't think I've seen any evidence that they're permanently shuttering radio-specific broadcasts going forward

Do we think Jake Odorizzi is going to pull a Dallas Keuchel? We are right on March's doorstep and despite being only 13 bad innings removed from a really good season, he's still out there.

I'd be really curious to see if he's turning down 2/20ish type offers in hopes of 3 years or maybe he's looking for something closer to 2/35.

'Jays' Hernandez looking to build on breakout 2020 - TSN.ca

Blue Jays outfielder Teoscar Hernandez discusses the change he made in his game last year that led to his breakout, and his goals of improving on his impressive 2020 campaign this season. Hernandez also comments on whether the offseason addition of George Springer and talks about adding Michael Brantley gives him motivation as a player.

'Honestly, I don't like it': Jays' Hernandez not a fan of DH role - TSN.ca

In a 15-game sample size, numbers show Teoscar Hernandez has struggled when he's been the designated hitter. The Blue Jays outfielder admits that he doesn't like the DH role, but says he'll figure it out and work to produce if he's occasionally in that role this season.
