I just think it’s logical to sign the best FA catcher, allowing you to trade Jansen for pitching.
Bauer fills a much bigger need than Realmuto does.

Jansen is an above-average catcher making very little in the coming years in comparison to Realmuto. The Jays also have a top catching prospect in Kirk.

You’re either overpaying for Realmuto or you’re overpaying for a free agent SP. At least if you sign Realmuto and trade Jansen you can target a more cost controlled pitcher in the trade.

Jays have one of the best farm systems in the league they could trade for a pitcher as well.

Trading Jansen doesn’t mean teams are Will be interested in him. They might not value him highly or might have a catcher already.

Like I said earlier I’d only sign Realmuto if you have a Jansen for SP trade lined up.

I think Realmuto was.alwaya a last resort plan. Springer seemed to be the #1 target and while they liked Kim, Hendricks, Lindor, etc., they had a price in those guys and didn't overpay to get them.

From the start guys like Shi have said their plan was to get an impact bat at a premium position of need. Check.

I think they turn their focus now to the rotation and finish off the pen. Either it is Bauer or perhaps 2 of Odorizzi, Tanaka, Walker, etc.

Still need to sign an infielder, preferably one that can play 3B too, so maybe that's Semien or Turner. Don't live Vlad or Biggio there, but if they do then maybe they target Didi or Wong instead.

A trade could be possible too to address the SP, 3B or both in the same deal, but I'm sure they'd keep prospects before cash.

Signing Brantley as a LH hitter is a game changer just due to roster spots. Even if Gurriel moves to RF and Teo is a full time DH and Vlad a full time 1B, you still have zero room then for Teller or Grichuk except for guys getting days off. Seems if they add another OFer there is a subsequent trade coming.

Signing Brantley is going to happen. My sources tell me that Brantley's #1 choice is going to Toronto with Springer. Subsequently when that deal is signed. The Jays will attempt to make a deal where they acquire a SP and 3B in one package.

Not saying it will be Realmuto. But I think we have more cash available to spend than he realizes.

Agreed. I guess he may be thinking that the Jays still have a few needs and wouldn't want to allocate that much to one player, though.

I don't think Realmuto makes a ton of sense since I really like the current catching options, but I don't think the Jays are out on the top guys just because they got Springer.

Who are your sources? Not specifically, just generally speaking.

I’d assume the deal would include Grichuk?

If true, then there are two teams who I can see,

Cubs- Bryant and Hendricks
Reds-Saurez and Castillo/Gray

Bryant and Hendricks come on down.

Isn’t verlander out for the year?

Yeah but no one is taking on Grichuk's and Roark's salary unless its a win for them. Verlander could be back in September or the playoffs. Either way it clears Grichuk's 10M in 2022 and 2023, Definitely need that money in our contention window.
