Bautista: "I want 5 years, 150 million"

EE: "I want 5 years, 150 million"
Jays "Done and welcome back"
Fowler "I want 6 years, 120 million"
Jays "Done and welcome"
Price "I want 7 years 210 million"
"Done and welcome back"
Bichette "I want..."
Jays "We can't afford to retain any of our young players into their free agent years because we've spent 110 million on 4 bottom of the roster players sorry"
Springer "I..."
Jays "If you're a free agent and want more than 2 million don't even bother calling, we can't afford it anymore"
Fans "Why are you capping your budget at 180 million Rogers, you can afford 300 million so sign Springer, Bauer, Realmuto, and LaMahieu too"
And WalkerI’m betting the jays walk out with Springer and Bauer
He was not a league average player until he was 30, I know you all don't like Zeke's arguing style but let's all try to be in good faith here.
LeMahieu started winning gold gloves at 25 and started making all star games at 26. He's one of the best hitters in baseball and the Jays would have zero issue getting a ton of value out of him if they upped the Yankees offer.
Zeke isn't totally incorrect here people, I just think the anger should be pointed at Rogers instead of the figureheads they put in place. The Jays beat the Yankees in attendance in 2016(2015? Maybe) and broke Canadian viewership records with Game 5 against the Rangers, yet they stripped the team down (somewhat justifiably) and hired a small market president and GM to take us through a rebuild that shouldn't have been as long as it was. Frankly, I have no idea whether it's Rogers keeping them in line or from the beginning Shapiro got the job on a promise that he could penny pinch in most spots and still build a championship level team.
I won't be too upset unless we miss out on Springer, that's where I'm drawing the line. Im just requesting as a thread we stop acting like getting the best 2 hole hitter we've had since Alomar wouldn't have been worth like 5/90? We're a big market team that can afford to take on big risks like that, whether Rogers wants you to believe that or not.
Phillies offer Realmuto 5/100+
Seeing as the Jays don't like going after players who weren't good until they turned 30, you have to assume that Bauer is off the table.
Although looks like we're shaping up to win the GS sweepstakes by process of elimination, so im pretty stoked about that.
Corey Kluber to the Yankees
yaaaaaay
IThere's a bit of comedic timing in that post yeah but I've always been hesitant to give Bauer a contract. Not only because he's been inconsistent but also because it likely means we're out on GS. I'd much rather Springer + Tanaka/Odorizzi instead of Bauer + JBJ. JBJ's inflated BABIP last year makes him a very unattractive option imo. Springer + a secondary SP gives a higher chance of hitting on our risks.I assume you're joking about our previous discussion about LeMahieu, but I'm really, really unsure about giving Bauer a huge contract. His track-record is all over the place and people talk about him like a proven Ace. Massive upside, obviously, but there's a ton of risk there.
As far as the top free agents go, Springer and Realmuto are definitely the two surest things.

Agreed. I'm not completely against being the team to take that risk on Bauer, but it's definitely not my preference.
