I know the Jays didn't need Lindor, but I would have loved him on this team. Great player...great guy. That was my number 1 target all along. Really thought it would happen. Let's see how it unfolds.
Agreed same for me

Would you be ok with signings like Pillar, Wong, Paxton, Bass and Hendricks? If that was the only way we could sign FA's.

Biggio is an upgrade on Shaw at 3B. Pillar is an upgrade in center on Grichuk and remaining OF rotate among OF and DH which upgrades our lineup. Wong is an upgrade at 2B which improves our D and he isnt a Goins with the bat, he can hold his own not to mention the speed element. Adding Paxton to rotation adds depth with a chance for high reward. And adding Bass and Hendricks really gives us a dominant bullpen along with Dolis, Romano, Hatch, Borucki.

Don't get me wrong I would love to add a premier FA or 2. But would it be the end of the world if we only signed these players? The team is definitely better then last season. While we save our assets for trade deadline to compliment what we have and possibly get a premier player or 2 then like we did with Price and Tulo way back when.

Absolutely not. Save the money. And Biggio at 3B is not an upgrade on Shaw defensively. Sad but true. Biggio does not have as good an arm. This is why we need a legitimate 3B.

I don't trust Shapkins judgement in identifying 4 "good players". They've missed on far more ~$10m/year free agents than they've hit on.

Might be 50/50 when you are looking at Jays signings.

The Good:
-Estrada
-Happ

The Bad:
-Morales
-Roark

Bautista and Ryu made substantially more than 10M but if you include them then it's still 50/50.

Though I hope they would do better than 50/50. Hopefully doesn't end up like it did for the Mets when they brought on several mid tier 10M guys like Familia, Bruce, Ramos and Lowrie.

Plus in this market 10M can buy you a lot more in 2021 than it did in 2015 to 2020.

So far that’s not the case. Free agents haven’t been taking discounts at all.

Not so much discounts but guys like Ray, Minor, Smyly, and Morton look like better early investments than say Pineda, Miley, Roark, and and Sanchez from last off-season. And guys like Eovaldi, Happ and Sanchez from the off-season before.

Guys like Tanaka and Odorizzi are the only non Bauer players to likely get 3 year offers. The rest are 2 or less. Even some of the others may get 1 year deals with incentives like Paxton, Happ, Kluber, Porcello, Lester, Quintana etc.

Conflicting reports on Springer. Nightengale says the Mets are still in, Martino says its less likely for Springer to the Mets now.

Edit: now Heyman says

I haven’t seen any insider confirm Sugano back to Japan yet.

[Acee] Padres still working on reaching agreement with Japanese star Tomoyuki Sugano, two sources tell @sdutSanders and I. Same people said team was out last week. Unclear what changed. Deadline to come to terms with Sugano is 2 pm PT.
