So why say San Diego then? If that’s where he wanted to play wouldn’t he say Anaheim? Just seems like odd wording
It’s Bauer, the more eyes on him the better right now as it will grow his brand. He will arguably never be in a better position in his career to do such a thing and I am confident he realizes this. Even just a brief comment about the Blue Jays near the end of a video is enough to get the fan base discussing him and consuming his material. Say what you want about his character or concerns regarding his performance, but the man knows what he is doing when it comes to marketing himself and I am confident he will do whatever he can to maximize the content that will come out of his free agency.

If we don’t sign an OF then I don’t see how we would get Lindor as I believe they want OF. I’m not excited about the same OF as last year but I’m more worried about our lack of anything close to a legitimate option for 3B. Sorry Vladdy, thanks for losing weight but your defence still sucks.

Also, the Jays need a starting pitcher. It doesn't have to be Bauer but has to be a solid arm. The rotation is still weak.

I think all the big free agents are using the Jays. I don’t see any signing here. Springer to the Mets. Realmuto to the Phillies. Bauer to the Angels. Lemahieu back to the Yankees.

Thats how i see it too. Though if the Phillies dont meet Realmuto's demands then we might be the only team that can pay him. Bauer is quirky, his decision may not make sense - the guy could sign a minor league contract with Miami and i wouldnt be surprised. Springer i think really wants the Mets but im not sold that they want him to shell out the money.

Regardless even if we miss out on all those guys we have a bunch of other options to fall back on;
Lindor and Carassco
Gray and Castillo
Bryant
Brantley
Bradley
Wong
Odorizzi
Paxton
Happ
etc.

Yup i agree. The jays are waiting to see if a free agent comes here. Best way to bring in talent because you dont lose anyone. But jays will end up doing something one way or the other. Likely scenario is through trade because they have a pile of good prospects and players dont have the option to say no haha

If the Jays miss on The top free agents it’s not the end of the world. There’s lots to be on the secondary market. There’s also trades as well. We could essentially sign

Odorrizi
JBJ
Paxton

then trade one of the outfielders in a package for Lindor. We would lose no pic or international money and still be an improved team. The spend would be the same ish and Fillmore holes. Like I suggested earlier we could even go bigger with the Indians and grab Carassco at the same time. I want one of the top dogs as well but it’s not the end of the world

you could also get all three likely around the price of one year of the elite guys. Lindor if brought in is where the money gets spent

No doubt. We can't afford to be suckered. We are ascendant as it is. Prudence is the onus. We don't need to sell out.

This all feels like we're going to miss out on everyone big. Not management's fault by any means. It seems like they're trying and making very competitive offers. However, we likely don't come out with a big player (at least from free agency) because they want to play south of the border.

We're going to end up with a big trade and 2-3 of the tier 2 guys. This would still be a success in my eyes.

The all tier 2 team:

Jays sign JBJ - 2 years
Jays sign Justin Turner - 2 years
Jays sign Michael Brantley - opens up trade for Gurriel
Jays sign Paxton/Odorizzi/Sugano - 1 or 2 years
Trade Gurriel for Lindor
Trade prospects for Castillo or Gray

Ryu
Castillo
Paxton
Pearson
Ray

Biggio LF
Lindor SS
Bichette 2B
Turner 3B
Brantley DH
Vlad 1B
Teo RF
JBJ CF
Jansen C

I would skip the Gurriel/Brantley/Lindor part and be happy with the rest, leaving Gurriel in LF, Biggio at 2B, and Bo at SS. That's still a huge improvement over last year's team (add Turner, Bradley, Castillo, and Paxton to replace a bunch of junk) without sacrificing much if the future (aside from the prospects given up for Castillo).

The Jays will grossly overpay for one of them, especially after all the chest puffing Shapiro and Atkins have done this offseason. I think we get Realmuto, Walker and they trade for Lindor.

They've specifically said they might add multiple good pieces instead of the elite ones. Nothing they've said has backed them into a corner and forced them to make any particular move to back up their words. They have TONS of options without a drastic overpay.

Grossly overpaying seems like an exaggeration. Nobody significant has signed yet. Bauer, Springer, Lemahieu, Realmuto etc are still free agents. The only team that's done anything is the Padres.
