The nice thing is the Jays have no need to bluff on "backup plans" like that, either.

Can't get Lindor? Whatever, we'll talk to Colorado about Story or Chicago about Baez or go the IFA route with Kim.
Can't get any of the top SS? No problem. Bo stays at SS and we look at Arenado or Bryant or Turner for 3B.
3B isn't working out either? Ok, we'll move Biggio or Vlad over there and get LeMahieu for 2B, or aim for a lower-scale upgrade with Wong.
None of those options are coming together? That's fine, too... with a cheap, young team just coming into their own, we can wait until the huge FA market next year and get our guy then.
I certainly admire this front office always wanting flexibility and never backing themselves into a corner. This team could take a variety of routes and it would still leave the team in a good position. That can’t be said about many teams around the league.

I think Kim is a must, regardless of which route they go. It's like buying a really good prospect that fits in with your core and is ready to produce at the MLB level.
I'm thinking the same thing. I'm reminded of when we signed Gurriel from Cuba. People were saying he was a 45FV and a utility man. He's looking like a 50fv and everyday left fielder. I believe in Kim's tools (plus arm, plus speed, plus power). He's core age and we know the Jays love their hitters with leg kicks.

Ive read like 3 articles about the rule 5 draft and im still unsure of what the rules surrounding the minor league portion are. Do we just have to keep them on the Buffalo roster for a year?

As far as I'm aware there are no requirements to keep a player in the minor league portion.

Noe Ramirez and Leonardo Rivas feel a lot like an AJ Cole and Kevin Smith type return. Or at best Waguespack/SRF and Espinal for Raisel Iglesias. Wish we were after that.

Was happy to see that the Rays trade Lowe but then realized that it isnt the Lowe i was hoping for.

Seems like a lot going fro Texas to Tampa for two 1Bs.

Does any team actually come out of a trade with Tampa and feel like they did well? Trade with literally anybody else at this point.

I'm pretty sure the Rays only ever added Josh Lowe so they could confuse other teams as much as possible in trade talks.

From what little I've read/heard, the pitching in the Korean league is similar to something between AA and AAA over here. He would definitely not be a sure thing. But for sure there would be no harm in signing him since we wouldn't have to give up any prospects.

The more i think about the more im convinced we are gonna end up with kluber and paxton on the pitching end . I woundt be against it in 2 year club optioned deals. Would give the kids coming up some great mentors aling with ryu. And if they regain form your laughing

But who knows .

No ones a sure thing. But if we had a prospect hitting .350, with a obp at almost .500, slugging over .800, 30+ homers, 100+ rbis, we'd all be drooling waiting for his call up. You're right not a sure thing, but guys who hit like that over in aa and aaa, tend to pan out

I've definitely warmed to the idea of Kim, seems a high floor, decent ceiling guy along w the right age to go fit w the core . Maybe he plays a bit of 3rd , 2nd and ss to get at bats allowing Jays to still go after Lindor/Baez.

If Vladdy plays 100gp at 3rd (with starts at 1B to keep him fresh), there's 62 starts available. If our SS plays 140, we have 84 games for Kim without any injury considerations.

I feel like at worst Kim is a super-utility type of player. The defense is there, it's more of a question with the bat. The guy is young, there's not much to lose if we sign him. We'd basically get a 25 year old top prospect who can play multiple positions.

Trade proposal: Grichuk, Roark, and a PTBNL (non top 10 prospect) for Arenado.

We lambaste these guys on here, but Grichuk is a good power hitter on a reasonable contract and Roark is paid respectable money and his been decent in the past. Playing in NL West parks would eliminate his biggest issue from this year (his worst HR/9 in his career).

Colorado cannot afford Arenado. They save 151.8M and get two pieces who could provide them value.

LA will undoubtedly be interested but Colorado does not want to trade within the division.

Roark pitching in Colorado would be something to watch. Over/under on 4 HRs/game?

You realize that Coors is less of a homer haven than Toronto?

Also, he would get to pitch in Petco, Oracle, Dodger Stadium and Chase regularly)
