If we can get JT, then Lindor and then Odorizzi. That would be a successful off season.

I would do it in that order so we have another trade piece for the Lindor deal that would prevent us from trading Gurriel. But if it is Gurriel needed in the deal then their may be another need to acquire another OF in FA.

I'd be down with Realmuto, but his ask of 7-8 years and $200 million would need to come down a lot.

I'd go as high as 5 years, $125 million, basically the same I would pay for Springer.

Bauer I'd go as high as 5 years, $150 million.

That's a lot of money and doesn't seem like that will get any of them done.

I keep going with Jansen. Still young, cheap, great potential. We should be using that money on pitching.

Bauer would be awesome. But I suspect we’ll be going hard after Odorizzi and maybe Paxton if healthy.

Rya
Pearson
Odorizzi
Paxton
Roark
Ray
Stripling
Kay

should be a good group of starters heading into the season. Maybe make a move at the deadline for a stud starter if the opportunity presents itself to upgrade.

As huge an addition as he would be, I don't think I go that high on Bauer. I think he's going to get paid like a reliable, consistent ace, and his track record doesn't support that. He was that pitcher in two of the last three seasons (including 2020 when he was absolutely, 100% cheating), but the rest of his career has ranged from above average to very good as opposed to ace.

I guess if we know he's going to continue using whatever substance he used in 2020 then paying huge dollars is a bit more palatable.

Rule 5 draft underway, 15 picks in. Based on us not making any moves today, does not look like we can pick anyone, correct?

Interesting to see if any of our guys are taken. None yet.

As I typed that, Jimenez was taken by the A's.

I personally would rather go after Kluber instead of Odorizzi.

I think Kluber is the perfect buy low candidate. Cleveland ties too.

Im also sold on Kim. Im not sure how indepth alot of you get in terms of hitting mechanics. But theres a couple videos on youtube of his swing, in slow mo too, his swing is fundamentally exceptional. You can see how a guy as small as he is, generates the power he does.

I really like Kluber too. Jays need 2 starters so why not both? I like Odorizzi on a 1-2 year deal. Guy was coming off a 4 WAR in 2019, he had 4 starts in 2020. His stock hasnt fallen that much for me, where he isnt wanted.

Ryu
Pearson
Odorizzi
Ray
Kluber

Pearson, Odorizzi and Kluber carry injury risk so Roark and Stripling could be useful depth. Though Roark doesnt seem like he will pitch well out of the pen. Might need another arm and move on Roark.

Jimenez taken in back to back years. Giants got him last year and returned him and the A's take him today.

Didnt realize Canadian and former Jays pick (did not sign), Zach Pop was available. Just turned 24, might be an intriguing arm - good pick by Arizona.

His launch angle, exit velocity and peripherals all suggest the power is real.

Floor on him could be good defense, positional versatility and something ĺike pre-breakout Bautista with the bat.

LOL Jays linked to every single player. I guess there’s a good chance we get one the more we get linked to.

I would not be the least surprised if Vlady gets traded. The jays sure are trying hard for a 3B. And infielders.

It certainly seems like Atkins has reached out to the agent of every single free agent in the entire world.

Why not? Sounds like they're being aggressive on their main targets and will pivot if they strike out.

Thing is that we haven't committed hard in a specific direction and can quickly switch gears if something changes (like if the asking price on Story and Arenado was relatively cheap)

Ive read like 3 articles about the rule 5 draft and im still unsure of what the rules surrounding the minor league portion are. Do we just have to keep them on the Buffalo roster for a year?

It not a bad strategy, it worked last year in landing Ryu and Roark. Too bad on Roark.

Eventually a top free agent will not have their preferred chair to sit at or a team with a player they need to move can’t find a deal - they will turn to the Jays and a deal will get done.

The sooner you get a deal done the better to lure other free agents. But you can’t rush the FA market unless you overpay; which is why trade might be best if you want to get a jump on the market like the Sox did with Lynn.

Oh nooooooo, not Story! Another shortstop on the market that could weaken Lindor's trade value? Oh nooooooooooo

EDIT: All jokes aside, I hope Atkins leaks in the coming days that the Jays are talking to the Rockies about Story. Keep Cleveland nervous about one of their top suitors.

Colorado needs to move salary desperately.

I think this is essentially what the Jays are telling their suitors. Take our offers seriously or else we have several backup plans.

This FO rightfully or wrongfully moved on their Plan Bs and Cs in the past a lot quicker and in most cases it hurt them more than it helped. So it’s a more measured approach.

You can do this with position players as their are limited positions. Can’t do it so much with starters as there are so many teams who need starters AND there are several more starting spots. Hence why they are more aggressive on the position player side and will take what’s leftover in the starting market.

The nice thing is the Jays have no need to bluff on "backup plans" like that, either.

Can't get Lindor? Whatever, we'll talk to Colorado about Story or Chicago about Baez or go the IFA route with Kim.
Can't get any of the top SS? No problem. Bo stays at SS and we look at Arenado or Bryant or Turner for 3B.
3B isn't working out either? Ok, we'll move Biggio or Vlad over there and get LeMahieu for 2B, or aim for a lower-scale upgrade with Wong.
None of those options are coming together? That's fine, too... with a cheap, young team just coming into their own, we can wait until the huge FA market next year and get our guy then.
