Legit lefty DH/1B power bat for the #5 spot

... But I don't want to get greedy... ;)

So someone to platoon with EE but better than Lind?

Damn, if only big pappi was 10yrs younger.

http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/8...mir-signs-minor-league-deal-cleveland-indians

Scott Kazmir signed a minor league deal with the Indians that includes a spring training invite.

Good luck with that. He's been beyond awful for a couple years now.

Did I read right we signed Bush to a minor league deal?

This the same guy we used to have?

Actually Justin Smoak would be a great pickup .. Especially for a power bat off the bench at the least, but the kid has potential still .. And he'd come cheap...

C'mon AA :P

1. Sad about Freel. This is a very tough time of year for a lot of people. Condolences to his friends and family.

2. Yes, it's the same Bush who used to be a Jay.

3. Seattle is so starved for offence, they need Smoak's potential more than just about anyone, so they certainly aren't going to move him for a "cheap" return.

Apparently, he is throwing in the 90-94 range again which, if true, that's not a bad pick-up. He likely won't get back to his old self but if his velocity is back a bit, I dunno, maybe you get your #4-5 starter out of him. It doesn't hurt to make a minor league signing like that.

Justin Smoak ****ing sucks. In his career 1421 PA, he has a career line of .223/.306/.377.683 and he has turned 26 years old now. Snider is 2 years younger, has a better career slash line, plays OF and people call him a bust. Smoak is a bigger bust.

Anyone else see Schoenfield's updated rankings??

They're not bad although I can't get over the high rank of the Yankees ..

Go big or go home! Need more Canadian uber-talent on the team

Gotta laugh at the fact that he basically ignores the fact that A-Rod and Jeter are out for pretty much the first 2-3 months of the year and then talks about health with the Jays LOL the Yankee homerism on ESPN and other sites is so ridiculous. 3rd is really stretching it, they wouldn't even be in my top 10 if I was doing the rankings.

Apparently Kazmir was throwing as high as 94 in the Puerto Rican Winter League, and sitting between 90-92. If those numbers are accurate, it could be a very rewarding signing for the Indians, I have my doubts though, Kazmir couldn't touch 88 MPH in 2011.

This thread is moving so slowly. We need another crazy rumor.

Come on Anthopoulos. You haven't let us down yet.

Well in the spirit of getting things going. What do people think of bringing in Morneau to take Linds spot?

You asked for debate lol

i thought he was a very highly touted prospect. is it still the same? I mean I also remember Matt Laporta being a powerhouse 1st baseman I believe  so I could be wrong and it's been a while

That would be the stupidest reason to not sign with a professional team.

"You drafted me before and didn't sign me, no way do I want you to pick me at 10."

Well, that's kind of the reason for the rule, but I doubt it'll be any trouble, I just brought it up because it is possible he doesn't want to be drafted by Toronto. Probably less likely after this off-season, but still a possibility that he's one of those kids who doesn't want to go to Canada.

Ugh, I know hindsight, but I wish AA could have signed him when we had the chance. Hopefully he makes it to 10, but I doubt it.

both of them? or laporta?

Both. They're both essentially replacement level (Smoak is actually 0.0 WAR for his career). Barring a Bautista-esque turn of their careers, neither is much more than a bench bat at this point.

I'm bored and would like to see this thread get going again so wtf.

If the Twins didn't want much more than Lind in return and ate most of the salary difference I would be all for it. I think Morneau is pretty much shot at this point but if they minimized the risk like that it would be worth it. The only way that would happen is if the Twins were looking to move Mauer to 1B full time.

I'd like to see AA trade Rasmus for an equivalent 1B/DH. Someone still relatively young with potential and years of team control. Someone like Ike Davis.

True. I now retract my previous post.

Too late.

So until AA gives us something to talk about I ask you guys this...

Do you think it's possible that when Drabek shows he's healthy that he's traded pretty quickly? There's no spot for him in 2013 (not that he'd be healthy). And probably not in 2014 either. In 2014 we might have an opening if JJ leaves, but we could sign a FA to fill that spot, plus Huch will be competing for a spot at that time too.

Thoughts?

I dont think he will have any value until he shows he can pitch at the MLB level.
I think it is best to send him to AAA when he is healthy to work on being a relief pitcher for 2014. If he works out as a relief pitcher maybe then you consider stretching him back out as a starter in 2015.

Coming of 2 Tommy John's surgeries and with how little success he has shown in the majors no one will give us anything of value for him when he returns next season.

is jeter going to miss part of next season?

Jeter says he will make spring training but I have my doubts about his ability. I used to work as an athletic trainer. The Ankle is wrapped in various tendons and ligaments which were damaged in the dislocation fracture of his ankle. Not to mention the cortizone shots to the ankle he was taking for a bruise.

WTF doc would inject cortizone into a load baring area like the ankle?

A doc that is doing what the patient wants. Jeter knew the risks he wanted the shots anyway.

It does seem to go against the concept of "do no harm" tho.

Platoon with EE? Why do you need a platoon partner for EE? Do you remember that he hit 42 freaking bombs last season? ;)
