I still gotta say I don't like the PH potential of that bench. Davis, Gose and Bonifacio/Izturis can all hit for some average and can walk, but there's no power there to bring up in an inning with multiple-run potential.

I'd really like to see Berkman or Hairston brought it so we can put Lind on the bench and/or platoon them at 1B/DH, not to mention give Gose some more experience at AAA.

I don't get why we need power off the bench. The goal of the ph is to get on base. If these guys can do that reasonably well then their doing their job. We all love the long ball but we'll see enough of that with our regulars. We have a nice bench especially for all the NL games we're gonna play. I'd rather a guy that can get on base over a guy that'll hit the odd hr off the bench but strike out or pop out for most of the rest of the at bats.

#BlueJays claimed 3B/OF Russ Canzler on waivers from the #Indians.

Puts them over the 40 man.

RHP Mickey Storey has been outrighted to Triple-A Buffalo as part of the move. #BlueJays have 40 on their 40-man roster.

Oh wow cool, they sneaked him to Buffalo. A good arm to have for depth.

Canzler appeared in 26 games for the Indians this past season. The 26-year-old posted a .269/.299/.398 batting line in 97 MLB plate appearances while playing first base and left field. He spent most of the season at Triple-A, where he posted a .265/.328/.487 batting line with 22 home runs and 36 doubles in 539 plate appearances.

In 28 AB's Vs. Lefties:

.393 avg .414obp 1.092ops

In the incredibly small sample size world, Canzler has a .400/.419/.667 line in 31 career PA against lefties.

Finally one makes it to Buffalo. One out of 4 not bad.

Or the Dazed and Confused kid.

People who compare him to anything but are clueless.

Looks about right. I'm not too familiar with Gabryszwski (hey he's our new Zeppy! lol). He's only pitched in bluefield though. I'd think natural progression would dictate he'd start in Vancouver first but I could be wrong. I really hope Norris has his breakout season.

The Jays often have players make the Bluefield to Lansing jump from one year to another.

I think I've heard it said that the NWL talent is comparable to MWL, the biggest difference is that it's full season ball in the MWL

Any chance a pitcher wants to take a discount to play for a contender?

If someone was going to do it, wouldn't it be with a team like the Jays now? Could come in, maybe take $5-7 on a one year deal and try and win a world series....

Been done in the NHL before...not too familiar with players taking major discounts in MLB though.

Considering AA had to include Syndergaard for the Mets to take on Buck's salary (rather than a Nolin/Stilson type), I think it's extremely unlikely he adds anyone who makes more than 1M from here on out...

So is this how we're looking right now?:

R.A. Dickey RHP
J. Johnson RHP
Buerhle LHP
Morrow RHP
Romero LHP

-Happ, Drabek, Loup, Oliver, Lyon, Lincoln, Rogers, Delabar, Janssen, Santos, Cecil

Reyes SS
Cabrera LF
Bautista RF
Encarnacion 1B
Lawrie 3B
Rasmus CF
Lind DH
Arencibia C
Bonifacio/Izturis 2B

-Gose (OF), Davis (OF), Bonifacio/Izturis, Thole (C)

A couple things. First, way too many guys in the pen. You've got 11 and they'll carry 7.

Second, they won't stack Lind and Rasmus like that.

Third, if Gose is on the 25 man roster, it's to start, he won't be here to sit on the bench.

Im not sure if they did. I thought he had an option left.

Agreed, signing or otherwise acquiring an established reliever won't happen unless Oliver sticks to his plan to retire.

Fair to say the only locks in the bullpen right now are Janssen, Santos (if healthy), Delabar, Lincoln and Happ?

And I'm not even sure about Delabar since he's still got options. That's a deep bullpen if you got as many as 6-8 guys battling for 3 spots.

Canzler seems like he'll join Davis, Thole, and one of Bonifacio/Izturis on the bench.

No way Delabar goes down. He has filthy stuff, probably could be an option to close if Janssen or Santos somehow can't do the job

Cooper could be that guy. He doesn't have HR power put he has doubles power and hits for average. Enough to clear the bases with this team speed. His bat is similar to Lyle Overbay when he was good.
