85% knuckleball, 14% fastball, 1% change up.

"discount" and "Boras" don't mix. Even so, he won't take anything less than 12m on a one year deal, and it's more likely that he's looking for a multi-year deal.

As someone who loves fangraphs, I need to post this...

They have GIFs of his "changeup" in normal speed, slower, and slowest. This might be more disgusting than his knuckleball.

Not sure how accurate this is but BR has Peter Greenberg, not Boras listed as his agent.

I doubt AA is spending anymore money this year. Picking up Soriano would be nice, but is it that necessary? I think a #5 bat who can play either 1st or DH is higher priority for this team. Then again you can never have enough pitching depth.

The Jays don't deal with Boras clients so this isn't happening.

Filthy. And as someone on Frangraphs notes about it, look how casual Thole is in catching it. It's like "psh, I've caught a knuckleball, this is no big deal."

Anyone have the youtube video to this?? I wanna post it on my facebook, and facebook does not post GIFs for some reason.

MLB is very protective of its video rights. Anything with MLB content that ends up on youtube is very quickly scrubbed. It's also why it's so hard to find streams of Jays (or any baseball) games compared to something like NHL games*

*I've heard that "NHL games" were once a thing. However, I can find no corroborating evidence. Perhaps people were confusing them with the National Squabbling League, where in rich owners and players lock themselves in rooms and refuse to realize how much they're screwing themselves and the populous over by their actions?

Look at the difference in rotation between those balls. It's insane what Dickey and other pitchers can do to the ball. :amazed: :shakehead

Much more movement and is random movement. But Wakefield wasn't great, it's just Dickey throws it much harder (80-82 mph) than most knuckleballers. This is why he has been the most successful at it

Can throw 80 - 82 but he doesn't constantly. He generally throws it in the 70's.

2 months ago people would've laughed at this "fantasy" lineup. It's crazy how much this team has transformed. With Morrow/Drabek/Hutchison/Bautista being injured, Escobar pitch-forked out of town, the Farrell fisaco, the losing season....then Farrell being traded for a bag of balls in Aviles (many thought the Jays could've landed something much more)...

And today we see a lineup that will contend for the top spot in the AL East :yo:

Got RID of the clubhouse cancer in Escobar.
Trading for:
Dickey - Reigning Cy Young winner
J. Johnson - Starting Ace of the Marlins for the last few years and has won a World Series.
Reyes - All-star shortstop

Getting ONE of these players would've been considered a successful offseason.

Other than Rasmus and Lind (two lefties) hitting back to back, and Lyon who isn't on the roster anymore, looks dead sexy.

Blue Jays purchase contract of Quebec Capitales LHP Tony Davis
(link)

QUEBEC -- The Toronto Blue Jays have purchased the contract of left-handed pitcher Tony Davis from the Quebec Capitales, the Can-Am League club announced Friday.

In 20 appearances for Quebec this season, the Newberry, Fla., native went 2-0 with a 1.06 ERA. He was used mostly out of the bullpen against lefthanded hitters.

Davis, 24, was drafted by the Minnesota Twins in the 12th round in 2009 but was released this spring. He joined Fargo-Moorhead of the American Association before he was traded to Quebec in July.

He had a 2.51 ERA in 44 appearances with the Twins' double-A affiliate from 2009 to 2011.

Minor league depth signing.

I still gotta say I don't like the PH potential of that bench. Davis, Gose and Bonifacio/Izturis can all hit for some average and can walk, but there's no power there to bring up in an inning with multiple-run potential.

I'd really like to see Berkman or Hairston brought it so we can put Lind on the bench and/or platoon them at 1B/DH, not to mention give Gose some more experience at AAA.

There is nobody in the lineup to pinch hit for except maybe whoever is playing 2B though.
