You would think the object is to have the best farm system and not win a World Series from some of the comments here. They have the best chance they've had in a two decades to win and people want to pull back. Geez..

Whomever has the best AAA team wins the World Series, don't you get it?

Starting to think this isnt happening. Reminds me of the Darvish and Fielder situations from last year.

a) Darvish was pure speculation on a secret bidding process and nothing else, this is a legit trade with legit sources with actual negotiations.

b) There was no Fielder situation.

Completely different. There were many teams involved in rumors for Fielder. This situation, as it stands, only has the Jays. Darvish is moot. It was a blind bid.

Agreed. Prospects are nice and all but we finally have a chance to make some noise this year. Now is the time to go all-in

Dickey guarantees the Jays neither a postseason berth nor a World Series.

Dickey puts this team right over the top. If AA can get him at the right price than he will. Simple as that guys.

How do we know Dickey will put us over the top? On paper, sure but lets not forget there have been plenty of elite teams on paper that didn't make the playoffs let alone put them over the top. Look at the Angels for example or Red Sox who had an unreal roster couple of years ago and look where they are now.

AA needs to get a roster that makes the playoff first and then worry about trying to get that roster over the top. It seems like we're the gutting the farm and risking a lot to hopefully make the playoffs. Its not anywhere like what Royals are doing but Jays aren't giving themselves much financial flexibility or flexibility with the minor league roster to improve the team.

While its not official yet, this doesn't seem like a reasonable price at all. We're giving up two prospects that are both better the ones we gave up in that blockbuster and we got a heck lot more back in that. Not to mention trading TDA means we have to be stuck with a crapbag like JPA.

I agree with all of this except the JPA part. I like him. But let's not get into that. I agree!!

20 HR's! Wow! :amazed:

Seriously though, J.P. has amassed 2 WAR over 242 games (1.3 WAR in 102 games last year). He has a career wRC+ of 89, and his defense is well, well below-average. He's been a below-average catcher to this point. That's all there is to it.

To put things into perspective, Yasmani Grandal, a catching prospect that was San Diego acquired in the Mat Latos deal, had a 2.6 WAR over 60 games this season. D'Arnaud was always considered to be the better prospect of the two, and it would shock no one to see d'Arnaud perform better than Grandal.

Even if d'Arnaud doesn't outperform Grandal, it's not like he has to be great to outperform what Arencibia did last year. In fact, he doesn't even have to be above-average.

What? That's what, around 6.0 WAR over a full season? That would shock everyone if D'Arnaud put that up in his first season. That's even higher than Posey in his rookie year.

Yeh.. And? What trade or FA signing does? Ever? The goal is to increase your chances and getting Dickey does. So your idea is to hoard prospects instead. Yeh, that's not for me. I've seen them win two series and I want to again

Can't see it on my phone what's it say?

- Deal is close, if not imminent
- Not sure what hold up is, could be players or physical stuff
- Deal will likely happen without a Dickey extension, however
- Good chance the Jays have already felt out the Dickey camp, in "back room negotiations"
- Will be a multi-player deal
- Thinks Dickey is not a fluke as he has had 3 straight good if not great years, and will be able to post solid numbers once again

The Yankees, sources say, are among the possibilities for Wells — the teams discussed him at the winter meetings, and Wells could fill the Yankees’ need for a right-handed hitting outfielder.

To trade Wells, the Angels know that they must assume the vast majority of the $42 remaining on the final two years of his contract. Wells, 34, also has a full no-trade clause, but likely would waive it for the opportunity for more playing time elsewhere.

lol Yankees.

Remember it took almost a week for the Miami deal to be officially announced because players couldn't get their physicals done. Some were in the woods hunting, some were vacationing, etc. Same could be true about this deal.

People get attached to prospects much easier then roster players.
