I would love to see this potential deal fall through and have AA look elsewhere.

I would also love for Seattle to keep striking out over and over again with free agents and trades because if this continues, they might just continue with their rebuild instead of trying to fast forward it, and they might be inclined to move King Felix. What they could get from us for him would probably set up thier franchise for years to come and it is a trade that Toronto fans could swallow if they were giving so such high prospects. Seattle might just have to go the Oakland root until they can compete consistently and attract free agents to come there and getting 3 young potential all stars with tons of years of control, it makes a lot of sense. :sarcasm:

I know the chances of it happening are slim, but if there was a time for Seattle to do it, it's now.

Could a package centering around Travis d'Arnaud C, Anthony Gose OF and Noah Snydergaard SP get it done. With a few added pieces on both sides, I think it could get done.

Obviously, this trade with the Mets would have to fall through which at this point, I kind of hopes does.

Or he thinks that's it's overpayment but it gives the Jays the best chance to win in 2013 and so he decides to overpay and make the deal.

Exactly. I think a lot on here are more focused on what we're giving up rather than looking at what this potentially does for us this year. I can understand why, as fans of Toronto sports we're not used to a "win now' philosophy. We've been programmed over time from the media to fall in love with rebuilds and prospects in this city. So I can see why a lot on here are acting the way they are.

I'm all for this trade. Can't wait.

I remember romero saying he doesnt care if he's the 5th starter, as long as we win
would he care of he's the odd man out in the playoffs or an off day?

LOL I wonder how much of his contract the Angles are gonna eat.

I'd give Vernon 1M a year to be the 4th of and second half of a DH platoon with Lind.

Hes going to the yankess rofl.

Yankees, Angels Discussed Vernon Wells
mlb trade rumors

He might not have a choice. Usually in the playoffs you go to a 4 man rotation. Right now if the trade is made I go with Dickey, Johnson, Buerhle, Morrow, putting Ricky in the bullpen for long relief if one of our 4 guys gets blown out early.

People are excited about what we could be getting but there is a limit on the price before it becomes a terrible deal.

They said the Angels would eat $38M of the remaining deal lol

I mean seriously he has a career .292/.352/.484 line against lefties. Yeah he was beeeyond terrible last year but even in his pretty awful 2011 he still had a .284/.320/.531 line against lefties.

I would think it would be determined by the success they had during the season. Maybe Buerhle is the one with a 5.00 ERA and Romero bounces back to 2011 or even 2010 form. In that case Romero definitely gets the nod in the playoffs.

Isnt he owed 42M? 2m a year for him as a 4th of and part of a platoon with Lind is still a good deal.

Kinda sad how far he has fallen. He was a great player for us at 1 point.

Took roids and signed the contract, stopped taking them and broke down.

Yankees hit with $18.9M luxury tax
UPDATED DEC 15, 2012 9:06 AM ET

NEW YORK (AP)
The New York Yankees were hit with an $18.9 million luxury tax by Major League Baseball, the 10th consecutive year they will pay a penalty for their spending.
The team finished with a $222.5 million payroll for purposes of the tax, according to figures sent to teams Thursday and obtained by The Associated Press
Following its payroll-shedding trade with the Los Angeles Dodgers last summer, Boston finished just $47,177 under the $178 million threshold. The Los Angeles Angels wound up at $176.7 million and Philadelphia at $174.5 million.

''It affects my decision-making process, my communication about the pressure points we have,'' Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said, adding that market rates for free agents also impact his choices.

The Yankees finished at a record $223.3 million, their 14th consecutive year as the biggest spender and topping their previous mark of $222.5 million in 2008.
However, the Dodgers could break that mark next year following a summer and autumn of acquisitions. Los Angeles currently is at $207.9 million for 21 signed players
The Yankees are at $182 million for 14 players, including a deal with Ichiro Suzuki that hasn't been finalized.

Wow, are you really advocating getting Vernon Wells back? Jesus Christ. I don't care if the Angels pay his entire salary, or what his numbers against lefties were in 2011, don't want him.

Took roids and signed the contract, stopped taking them and broke down.

That's some pretty excessive speculation there.

As JP said himself on the Fan after he got fired, he totally expected Wells to go to Texas after the '07 season, so he decided to offer him a massive deal after '06 expecting he'd reject it and then there wouldn't be the PR disaster that existed when Delgado left and he could move him to Texas in the offseason.

Problem was Wells called his bluff.

You have any proof of this?

He was in the mitchell report, and the year they starting cracking down on Steriods Wells came to spring training with 30lbs of weight lost. He also started getting hurt and lost all his power at that point as well.

Not exactly "proof" but quite damning circumstantial evidence.

I don't recall Wells name being in there, and a quick google search isn't helping me on it.

And tbh, I am suggesting it as a realistic option. With our stadium's RH power splits Wells could be a pretty useful piece off the bench.

e: also from what I can tell, Wells lost 20 pounds going into 2004, so does that mean he just starting taking roids again when he was useful in '06, '08 and '10?

I might be mistaken on the Mitchell report, I know 2 Jays were on it at the time.

The weight loss, loss of power and getting hurt at the same time is definitely the case though.

Then why not overpay for a guy who will be with the team for more than a couple of years, and has so many question marks? He doesn't seem like he even wants to come here ie: Jon Stewart.

I am all for for possibly overpaying for a guy to set us over the top, and a top notch pitcher would do that, but I would rather overpay for someone like David Price.

Yea Tampa Bay is in our division, but they are all about good business. They know with our improvements and their big trade, that they are most likely gonna take a little step back this year. If they turned David Price into let's say Travis d'Arnaud, Anthony Gose and Noah Snydergaard or Aaron Sanchez, in 2014 they would be stacked with fantastic great young players, ready to take on the Blue Jays.

They would have Moore, Hellickson, Snydergaard/Sanchez, Cobb, Niemann, Archer and others.

Their top of of the line up would be

Desmond Jennings
Anthony Gose
Evan Longoria
Wil Myers
Travis d'Arnaud
Ben Zobrist

That's a lot of great young talent going forward.

If I were to overpay, it would be for Price not Dickey.

Glaus and our favourite commentator Zaun were on it.
