Was told yest Dickey resistant to do extension with #Bluejays, but Tor will not include D'Arnaud/do deal without extension and (cont) #Mets

while contract talks r not underway, seems to be confidence that Dickey will do extension: 2 flights daily from Tor-Nashville, stays (cont)

on East Coast, goes to competitive team, gets financial security #Mets #Bluejays

Guys... before we jump off a cliff here. We have a small window to be competitive-- yeah it is the time to trade gose and d'arnaud. If we don't win in that 3 year period we have the next wave ready to roll. DJ davis, the Lansing 3+Norris, Osuna---- the cupboard is far from empty.

#Bluejays feel must sacrifice some prospects to take adv of 3-yr window with prime-age players such as Bautista/Reyes/Encarnacion, etc #Mets

Dickey is also the kind of starter that can completely neutralize the offensive juggernauts of the league. I like Buerlhe but I think he will take some lumps against the big hitting teams. Johnson, Morrow and Dickey have the kind of stuff to really neutralize the big guns whereas Buerhle and Romero will be a little scarier to watch in those matchups.

At least we won't trade TDA without Dickey extension. Still, I would like to keep around TDA and Gose. They are better long-term options over Rasmus and JPA.

We also have the potential to land a future stud with are pick this year. and we've seen what AA does in drafts.

I just thought I'd mention that FIP has been historically inaccurate for knuckleballers. Playing the advanced stat game with players with unique mechanics isn't a recipe for success.

First off, the last thing you should pay attention to is "Wins" when trying to measure a pitcher's impact. It's a team stat. Look at things like whip, xfip and fip which are much more accurate. Hope that helps.

ya I know what you are saying....but when those stats that you mention are good, it often leads to wins. Although a pitcher is only part of the equation to getting wins, I'm just hoping that he can make enough of an impact to win us 15. Because I am sure that with our hitting lineup they should give him at least a couple runs in a good portion of his starts.

Not saying that you are wrong about looking at Wins as a main stat to judge a pitcher, because I mean, if Cecil can get 15 than just about anyone can....

Remember when Beeston came out and said he expected this team to make the playoffs 3 out of the next 5 years and winning a WS. Well Year one didn't go so well. The organization means business now. This has been one of the craziest off-seasons we're ever going to see for a long time IMO.

Usually, a good pitcher will have his share of wins. I mean Doc Halladay had the most wins in the MLB during his time with the Jays and they Jays were not exactly a juggernaut team. I think the season when Felix Hernandez had only 13 wins but had great stats was an outlier. Just how it was an outlier in the other direction when Cecil won 15 games

When are the Jays going to get a better shot? Red Sox, Yanks are both at their worse. Time to do it big.

Yup... Plus Bautista, Reyes, encarnacion etc are all hitting their peaks. Few years down the road they'll likely be starting to slow down

So if the Dickey deal goes through that means we'll have acquired:

Maicer Izturis, Josh Johnson, Mark Buerhle, Jose Reyes, John Buck, Emilio Bonifacio, Melky Cabrera, RA Dickey and possibly more along with Dickey.

Wow!

And you know the Yanks money will be burning a hole in their pocket. AA picked the perfect time to set this team up for a winner. And now we have time for other prospects too. It's great.
