It's always funny hearing people try to rationalize trades after they happen.

Let's put it this way: I'm not a huge fan of trading Travis D'Arnaud as I thought he was going to be real good in the MLB this year, but what do I know? We currently have 3 MLB calibre catchers, and that's too many. Why not solidify the rotation by adding the Cy Young winner lol. I'll just have to trust AA on this one.

Hmm, another one who reads what they want

But hey, don't go crying if Dickey doesn't repeat his season. Like I said, people take 1 great year too seriously.

You're absolutely right, he had a great year last year. But do you discount his very good years the 2 years prior?

Hahah jerk.

I actually played All-Star level fastpitch. We finished high in provincials every season. My claim to fame was a grand slam down 7-5 in a league game in the top of the 7th (7 inning games) and a pinch hit 2-run homer in to win a tournament in the bottom of the 7th down 2-1.

But I didn't get a lot of of homers. I think my best year I had 4 in about 75 games. I drew a lot of walks and always had an OBP% over .400 though. I was a terrible fielder though. I was an infielder (our infield was amazing though) so they stuck me in the OF since I was better than the other bench guys and a good hitter.

Ha nice. I played hardball every year growing up. I played in the summer two years ago (I was 20) in a senior league. My average was .230 but I had an OBP of .357

Yeah I really don't like the way this trade is shaping up to go... two of our best prospects for a 38-yr old? I know, I know he won Cy Young but let's be realistic, how much is left in the tank? couple years, three at best... as much as I liked (and not *loved* like some people) the trade with Florida, this one just seems really bad to me. Our rotation is more or less set, they have plenty of depth to fill the 5th starter spot. Giving up TDA *and* Gose for this guy - please say it ain't so.

This is how Champioship teams are built. For years people in Toronto have been envious of the Yankees and Red Sox. Free agent signings and trading top prospects for the final pieces is exactly what these teams do. We absolutely need another starter and it appears as though AA is about to address that. If you want to hang with the big boys then you go all the way. Clearly the Jays want to win a World Series, so why leave any bullets in the chamber?

If we have to give up TDA then there's going to be more to the deal. I expect to see the deal look something like this (pure speculation):

To Toronto:

R.A Dickey
Ike Davis
Bobby Parnell

To NYM:

Travis D'Arnaud
Anthony Gose
Adam Lind
Chad Jenkins

This would solidify the 1st base/DH position, our rotation and our bullpen, while at the same time bringing starting depth incase of injury and adding a legitimate #5 lefty to the lineup. Although I wouldn't want to necessarily give up Lind because I think his bat would be good coming off the bench or when there are injuries, but I can't see the Jays keeping his salary on the bench with Cooper available.

If Dickey doesn't repeat and only posts a year like 2010, I'm 100% fine with that.

What's your opinions on Josh Johnson?

I like Dickey but i wouldn't give up both Gose and TDA without not getting something back with Dickey

Andy Martino will be on the FAN 590 - for those interested - in about 15 minutes to discuss the possibility of a Dickey trade to T.O..

*Three* great years, which is the point you continue to fail to grasp. But you're right that Dickey could fall off this season, in the same way that anyone could have an off year or regress.

Any trade is a risk. Fortunately the indicators are favourable for Dickey having some staying power as a quality top-of-the-rotation arm for the next few years based on his mechanics and his progression over the last three seasons.

I still don't like the idea of movin Gose or d'Arnaud, never mind both of them, but we'll see what the final deal looks like before I get too bent out of shape.

There HAS to be something coming back with Dickey that has value. You just don't give up TWO stud prospects for a 1 year rental, regardless if he was a Cy winner.

yes we don't know what Dickey is gonna be next year but we also do not know if TDA is gonna be good in Majors.

A lot of sources on Twitter have been saying the same thing. Many people on here speculate there would be more coming back on both sides. There's been speculation between posters and maybe on Twitter that Ike Davis and a pitcher would be included with Dickey for a package centered around D'Arnaud.

Good god. I might have to turn Fan 590 off. Johan Santana, Daniel Murphy ??? really ?

Edit: Andy says Wheeler / Harvey are untouchables and probably won't be moved this winter...
