You know..I should know better than to not trust AA. Even if this trade doesn't work out perfectly, he always has 6 or 7 other moves that make up for it.

Dickey also mixes fastballs into his arsenal. He didn't throw as many last season as he relied a little more on a 80+ MPH knuckler but he can actually get his fastball close to 90MPH.

In 2011 he threw the fastball almost 25% of the time but cut that number almost in half last season. Unlike previous knuckleballers he has a legitimate fastball that he can throw for a strike whereas Candiotti and Wakefield threw some very weak heat when they tried to mix in their fastball.

I like the fact that he is so durable when we have Morrow and Johnson in the rotation who have both struggled to stay healthy. There is also the fact that Romero is coming off of a surgery. Dickey and Buerhle are both major workhorses who should help ensure that this staff doesn't fall apart like it did last season.

I should add that there is an added value to a guy like Dickey. Knuckleballers are famous for screwing up players swings for a game or two which should benefit the two starters behind him in the rotation if he pitches at the start of a series. I would personally put him between Morrow and Johnson to break up the oppositions ability to zone in on the right handed power arms.

The only concern that I have right now is going 3 righties and then two lefties. Buerhle and Romero are clearly the #4 and #5 starters respectively and if you throw Dickey between them then you limit the number of starts that he can make with his rubber arm.

LOL, look at his stats as a whole, don't pick out certain stats. 2011 he went 8-13 ,2010 he went 11-9

Sorry but those are not stats to "watch out" for. He's a flash in the pan, sorry if I'm not convinced by 1 season like many are

Hell, even his bullpen stats are crap
Did you just say look at stats as a whole and then use win/losses to evaluate a pitcher? Seriously? :big laugh:

He won the Cy Young 3 years in a row? I musta missed that
Sweet! There's only two good pitchers in the MLB every season!!!!

Definitely don't love giving up both of them.

I'll wait to see what pieces are coming back before I decide.

I love how the Mets suddenly stopped talking. AA probably said, if you want this deal, shut your yaps

Well, this looks like it's close now.

I guess Arencibia is our catcher of the future... bye bye Travis!

Why haven't other names come out? Well, Mets playing this incredibly close right now. They don't want to jinx or derail anything by yapping.
So they leak the names of the Jays players involved? doesn't add up.

We all know AA is johnny tight lips while trying to close a deal.

I just love how deep this Jays team is now compared to previous years and just how many additions aa has added. Lot of people are forgetting about Melky, i think he can play very well for us as well.

I didn't realize you had to win the cy young to be considered 'good'

The debate about giving up TDA aside, I'm really excited for this trade to go through. I love the idea of watching Dickey pitch every five days. Knuckleballers have always fascinated me.
You can have a really good year and not with the CY Young

You both missed the point entirely , oh well

I expect to see Buck and Thole as part of this deal as we need to trade some salary to take on Dickey and Thole works well with Dickey.

Hmm, another one who reads what they want

But hey, don't go crying if Dickey doesn't repeat his season. Like I said, people take 1 great year too seriously.

The Deal should be Gose and a Player to be named later For Dickey.
If they jays resign dickey or Win the world series It's TDA going the other way. If they don't its JPA That's how this deal should be.

It just doesn't make sense that Alex would trade D'arnaud and Gose for Dickey. D'arnaud, imo, would have been more than enough to get Dickey. The only way I can see both going is if we get wheeler or harvey back and maybe give them an osuno or something. We could use a high end starter who is close to ready in case JJ walks

It's pretty evident you have no clue what your talking about. I don't know why you keep chiming in, your making yourself look less knowledgeable with every post.

Yeah I really don't like the way this trade is shaping up to go... two of our best prospects for a 38-yr old? I know, I know he won Cy Young but let's be realistic, how much is left in the tank? couple years, three at best... as much as I liked (and not *loved* like some people) the trade with Florida, this one just seems really bad to me. Our rotation is more or less set, they have plenty of depth to fill the 5th starter spot. Giving up TDA *and* Gose for this guy - please say it ain't so.

But still hit like Felipe Lopez?? :naughty: :sarcasm:
Hahah jerk.

I actually played All-Star level fastpitch. We finished high in provincials every season. My claim to fame was a grand slam down 7-5 in a league game in the top of the 7th (7 inning games) and a pinch hit 2-run homer in to win a tournament in the bottom of the 7th down 2-1.

But I didn't get a lot of of homers. I think my best year I had 4 in about 75 games. I drew a lot of walks and always had an OBP% over .400 though. I was a terrible fielder though. I was an infielder (our infield was amazing though) so they stuck me in the OF since I was better than the other bench guys and a good hitter.
