How do you all like Shapiro and Atkins now? Came in overhauled the player development system (and built a huge $100 mil complex), improved on the good Scouting staff AA left us with, turned over an old roster and rebuilt around a core of young stars and now they are signing big Free Agents and making impact trades to augment the core to build a deep major league roster who should be a legitimate title contender for years.

Didn't you just answer your own question? ;)

Can’t help but think getting Chapman vs Freeman leaves more salary available for a BP upgrade (Kenley anyone?) or another LH bat.

It's funny how little the old group complains. Rogers is cheap. Shatkins are rogers plants that can't do anything. These two have done an incredible job and now get to show just what they could have done in Cleveland and they were able to keep adding.

Yeah but AA would have made an offer to Price (but somehow couldn't keep Freeman in Atlanta?).

I wasn't as high as some people on Chapman because I worry about the bat, but that's entirely dependent on what the price is. Even if the bat doesn't bounce back, he's still a huge addition. (And he wouldn't be the first guy to leave Oakland and see his offense take another step. Hell, he wouldn't be the second star 3B to leave Oakland for Toronto and see his offense take another step!)

Groshans and a lower prospect would make sense, but you never really know with Oakland... guys like Smith/Lopez/Taylor seem like their kind of targets, too. Biggio and Espinal too, though I would like to see them stick around to platoon at 2B and keep the depth around. Kirk or Jansen would make sense from the Jays, but not so much for Oakland anymore.

Man... Schwarber had a 148 OPS+ last year, The Phillies better have paid out their ears for him. I wanted him so badly.

Yeah if they went four years I understand but I would be shelling out some solid $$$ for anything three and under.

So Gausman, Kikuchi and Chapman are the official replacements for Ray, Matz and Semien. Pretty good. We also get Biggio away from 3B and to his natural position at 2B where he could be a 3 WAR guy again. Good day.

Assuming him having to recover from the hip surgery last offseason impacted his 2021 stats, here's hoping it's all behind him and he can rake again.

My guess is if the Chapman deal is done, its Smith, Hoglund/Pearson and Otto Lopez.

Also i would have loved Freeman, Schwarber or Bryant but if we get none and end up with Chapman, then Votto would be perfect. He is disgruntled, Canadian, a lefty bat, and had a higher OPS+ than Freeman. The best part about Chapman and Votto is they would increase the floor and ceiling of the team and only have 2 year commitments. The commitments fit much better with this team's future.

Springe - CF
Bichette - SS
Guerrero Jr. - 1B
Votto - DH
Hernandez - RF
Chapman - 3B
Gurriel - LF
Biggio/Espinal - 2B
Jansen/Kirk - C

Still have pieces like Kirk, Jansen, Espinal, Biggio and prospects to use at the deadline for Marter or Ramirez.

Zips and Streamer both project Espinal crashing back down to earth but that 2b job should still be a battle in camp. He was too good last year to not get a fair shake.

Hey I said i was sorry years ago.

Yep basically all of his peripheral graphs trend upwards from April/May 2021. I don't think he was fully recovered at the start of the year.

The only blip is his launch angle absolutely dying in August for some reason (and then going through the roof in September).
