I also love that Chapman comes with 2-Years of control rather than having lock in to big money for 4+ years. It keeps financial flexibility into the Arb years for Bichette and Guerrero as well as gives you a window of development time for Groshans and Martinez to possibly fill that void down the road without rushing anyone into the spot.

I guess a Ramirez trade is off the table. Nice get on Chapman though. Still need some leftie bats in the lineup. But the power bats and defence this team has is unreal.

I imagine it was going to be tough to not give up one of Pearson, Hoglund or Groshans. I'd be curious whether Hoglund is the one we preferred or Oakland. I would think we have less future pitching and may have preferred to trade Groshans, but tough to say for sure. I still like him a lot.

Smith, Snead and Logue were all on the 40 man roster. 3 out and 1 in. We have 2 spots on the 40 man now to make a signing.

Chapman over Smith. Snead wasnt getting time in the pen and Berrios, Gausman, Ryu, Kikuchi, Manoah. Pearson, Hatch and Stripling were all locked up over Logue. He wasnt getting time. So only real loss is Hoglund and if he cant rebound from Tommy John, it isnt a problem for us.

Also sucks for Hoglund, he signed with the Jays and our ST facility was 15 minutes from where he grew up.

Excellent - Chapman always seemed like our best bet. That Oakland to Toronto pipeline has been golden for us. Only prospect in there it hurts to lose is Hoglund, but he's a few years away and we're kicking open that contention window now.

Having this infield while still having Moreno,Martinez and Groshans waiting in the wings is kind of ridiculous. It is also how you build a perennial contender because in two years when Chapman is going to market Orelvis should be about ready to slide in there.
