What does the number of time he played "as a non-DH" have to do with anything? DH is a position and he plays it full time. Of course he qualifies as a hitter.

To me it doesn't seem fair that 1 team essentially gets 9 relievers full time because 1 of their starters counts as a position player. I have no issue with him doing both, it's awesome, but anyone who consistently pitches should count as a pitcher for the limit IMO.

Haven’t really watched much pre season based on understanding there aren’t many if any positions available. Will Pearson make the team?

I’m as much of a fan as anybody but how in the hell is Kirk the highest ranking Jay??

129 wRC+ and 3.8 fWAR ranked 4th respectively in both for the team last year and he had the least PA of anyone else close- and every player thats arguable was close:

Bo: 129 wRC+, 4.5 fWAR
Springer: 132 wRC+, 4.2 fWAR
Chapman: 117 wRC+, 4.1 fWAR
Vlad: 132 wRC+, 2.8 fWAR
Gausman: 3.35era, 2.38 fip, 5.7 fWAR
Manoah: 2.24era, 3.35fip, 4.1 fWAR

It's not clear who's the best player on this team because anyone listed above has a legit reason to be considered. Wouldn't be my choice, but it didn't feel out place seeing him there, especially when you consider he's the only guy on the team that's no doubt a top-5 player in the league at one of CF/SS/C/SP.

I'm surprised how few Yankee fans are taking Judge's regression into account. His OPS+ could drop 39 points next year and it'd still be his best season outside of 2022. The Goldilocks balls didn't actually help him that much per se, they were a far cry from "juiced" but it certainly won't help losing them.

The reason I dont like it is because Ohtani has literally the lowest number of non-DH innings of anyone that has ever had more than a cup of tea.

DH is fine as a position for guys who could hypothetically play the field but suck at it. If a DH isn't allowed to pitch, then Ohtani should count as a pitcher who hits.

Maybe I missed it but have the Jays announced who the opening day starter will be? Assuming it’s Alek, but wondering if there has been a formal announcement yet?

To put the stupidity of this in context, if the Jays started Manoah as DH on his 1st 20 games that he isn't pitching, then sub him out right away, he counts as a 2 way player (without needing a single AB)

Nope, he would have to have at least 3 PA in each of those games.

I'm curious how the Yanks will do. Judge will almost certainly regress. Furthermore, he has been healthy for the last two seasons and he's a big guy so an injury is a possibility. After Judge, the offense isn't good. A lot of players who are on the decline. The rotation is one of the best in the league but there are some health concerns. Montas is going to miss most of the year and Rodon is dealing with an injury.

If Barrios and Kikuchi bounce back man this team could have special season. Can't wait for season to begin :)

Agreed, even just 1 bouncing back would be fantastic. Have Ryu and potentially Tiedemann who could be ready by the deadline. I'm not holding my breath but a healthy Ryu is a game changer.

I am really excited about the season. I think that the 100 win pace under Schneider really translates into this year. I think we are breaking 100 wins, I really do. I like this team a lot.

It's one thing if they used him as a reliever but because he is starting every fifth day it's pretty clear he's a pitcher. He absolutely should count as a pitcher

I think you're at least in part referencing my post. I don't recall but I'm sure I used juiced balls which is an overstatement but they league used three different balls last year and one was more prone to the long ball. Judge from my recollection got those almost always unlike every other team. They were feeding him the best chance at success unlike the other players in the league. It's brutal and pathetic that the league allows this to happen.

Not even taking into account that this year we face the yanks, red sox and rays less which in itself should help a lot with us tacking on more wins
