Massive game today

Would be happy to eat crow via my previous melt down. We beat mexico were in the knockout round

How many drinks is it when Buck complains about catchers using the one knee approach?
Siddal was praising catchers on one knee this week. Basically said advanced stats made stealing pitches was more important than the rare passed-ball. Now Buck is going on about not doing it. Low-key war between the two anouncers...lol.

So are the Mets on the hook to pay for that 20 mill season for Diaz?

If a player is injured away from their own team I can’t imagine the Mets would have to pay?

I would hope they would have insurance on the contract, but I don't know if they do.

Yes he still gets paid. They might have insurance on it but that would be no different then if he injured himself with the Mets or at home.

I’m surprised teams allow their players to do this tournament if they carry all of the risk and they get no upside from it. Seems high risk to allow your best players to play and they get no real gain for the team, except making the player happy.

In no way specifically directed at the above posts but I've seen a lot of similar sentiment from hockey fans recently who then try to ether the NHL for not allowing players in the Olympics.

I feel like there's a pretty distinct difference between this random tournament and the Olympics but I get the sentiment

I’d be pissed if one of our key players got hurt for the season during this BS tourney.

One of our players could be hurt carrying groceries up a flight of stairs, picking up a cracker his young child dropped on the floor, hurting himself on a steak knife (no less than 3 different ways), fixing a drone, sneezing, or panicking after waking up from a nightmare about spiders.

all of those are things that have actually happened to pro athletes.

Injuries are going to happen. Diaz could've hurt himself jumping up and down at a concert or celebrating something with family at a bbq.

Does it suck? Yeah. But the WBC is good for the game and the players that go enjoy it. It needs to better establish itself in the absence of proper baseball competition at the olympics but this tournament has been exciting and is a key potential way to maybe get people into the game that wouldn't otherwise be interested.

You never want to see a guy get hurt, but guys are going to get hurt as a matter of course unless you encase them in bubble wrap every time they step off the field.

Hell, guys get hurt in spring training all the time and that's just as meaningless as the WBC. Vladdy hurts his knee and misses the tournament and nobody cares. But if the injury had happened a week later in a game for DR people would've flipped tables over it. It's silly.
