Good thing we upgraded our outfield D

One thing that became evident today is that pitcher's will get tired a lot faster within an inning because of the timer. The extra pitches hurt Kikuchi in the 1st and 2nd (because the Jays 2nd was quick).

And now Pittsburgh is facing the same problem.

Where 25 pitches in an inning last year would be entering the uh-oh phase (gassed pitcher), 20 will likely be that point this year with the added fear that the pitcher's team might not be up long enough to recover.

Wonder how this affects load management for MLB pitchers this season. There were only 5 MiLB pitchers with >150 innings last year. In 2019 there were 21.

How is Sem Robberse not on the Netherlands WBC team? I guess he decided not to go? Looking at their roster he might be their best pitcher. First game tonight, I thought it might be worth watching if he's pitching but nope.

Eh both of them were just kind of a lack of focus. Especially Britton who hasn't really impressed me defensively all spring.
Did you not see the several that the Pirates dropped? (not to rain on your unnecessary shitting on a prospect parade)

Yes I did. There is a difference between losing one in the sun and dropping one because you took a needless hop as the ball came to him. You might think it is unnecessary but it is just my opinion. I have been impressed with Britton at the plate but he has made multiple mistakes in the field so far in spring. It is just an impression off of a few games. That's it, you don't have to like it but it is what it is.

Trade him to the Mets then he'll never get off the bench.

Yeah, they might have to rethink this rule, because that's a free base right there:

Or we're about to enter the running era.

I don't think they need to rethink the rule yet. They just need pitchers to adjust to needing to only go for the pickoff when they legit think they have a shot at the runner.

Maybe if it's still an issue in a while they can bump the pickoff limits to 3 or 4, but the whole point is to get rid of the "pitcher throws the pickoff a half-dozen times, everyone starts booing after about the 3rd attempt because f***ing get on with it." thing. If the runner can bait the pitcher into wasting his pickoffs then maybe he deserves the quasi-free-pass steal.
