According to the Fangraphs Roster Resource Jays' depth chart:

Rotation
Manoah and Kikuchi have 3 options apiece, every other projected starter is past the point of being optionable.

As far as depth guys:
Pearson - 2
Zulueta - 3
Zach Tompson - 3
Hatch - 1
Hutchison - n/a
Lawrence - 0
Matt Peacock - 1
Bowden Francis - 2
Nick Allgeyer - 2

Bullpen
Romano - 2
Swanson - 1
Garcia - n/a
Bass - n/a
Mayza - 2
Cimber - 3
Richards - 0
White - 0

Depth
Pop - 2
Thornton - 1
Jay Jackson - 0
Junior Fernandez - 0
Luke Bard - 0
Paul Fry - 2
Julian Fernandez - 2
Hagan Danner - listed as 2 but I don't recall him ever getting called up so that seems weird.

Honestly, except for the options issue, I think Pop should be in the pen to begin with. I get them wanting White as a long man / emergency or spot starter but I wouldn't be against firing Richards into the sun unless he conclusively demonstrates that his massive walk spike last season was the flukiest of flukes
Thanks a lot. Weird about Danner because he hasn’t been called up. He looked very good yesterday but needs more time in AAA. Could be an early call up when needed.

I’m not a Richards fan. He’s home run prone as well.

You don't need to be called up to use an option. As soon as you get added to the 40 to spend anytime in the minors(outside of rehab) you have to be optioned. Danner was added to the 40 man winter 2021(to protect against the rule 5 that never ended up happening) and spent the beginning of last year in AA(before getting injured). He had to be optioned for that to happen.

Leo Jimenez for example has also burned an option and they'll be burning an option on Orelvis this year as well regardless of whether he gets recalled at any point.

If you're on the 40 man and don't break camp/land on the IL you get optioned to a minor league team. If you're in the minors for >=20 days of the season then you use up that option, It's also why Gabriel Moreno (added in 2020) only has 1 option remaining for the DBacks, or how Leo Jimenez (added in 2021) has 2 options remaining.

It feels weird having so many pen options now and in the next couple of years (looking at Sportrac, the only guy in the pen right now who's contract is up after this season is Anthony Bass.

Based on their data the rolling expiries of pen arms is

FA in:
2024 - Bass
2025 - Garcia, Cimber, Richards
2026 - Mayza, Swanson, Thornton, Romano
2027 - Green
Unclear yet (hasn't accrued service time to get out of arb phase) - Pop, Danner, Pearson, White*

Then you add Zulueta and Danner and other young guys that are pushing for jobs.

One thing I don’t like is how aggressive the Jays are on the base paths this spring. They are running into easy outs too often.
Is it possible that they’re being intentionally over aggressive to get a good feel for how the new pickoff rules and the biggger bases affect base stealing?

That’s my hope. I doubt they keep doing it in the season though.

More I think about it your suggestion makes sense.

We really need to be mindful about these new rules and the adjustment period for players. Introducing a clock will really f*** with everyone's timing. Sometimes it will help, sometimes it will hurt.. other times it will be a shitshow ... Need to be patient in this process and hope by the time games get more competitive, players figure it out.

Because of this, using Spring Training to test the limits is the best option.

You've heard of the bat around inning. What about the hit around inning. Where everyone comes to the plate and the opposition still hasn't gotten any outs. 10 guys, 8 runs, 2 guys on, still no outs
