we live in a world that Bellinger makes $17.5 for one year.

Bellinger is 27 and a former MVP. I dont think he is worth $17.5M but it makes sense why he would get more than 29 year old Gallo and 33 year old Kiermaier.

I just can't see how you can trade Teoscar and replace him with Gallo and Kiermaier and say you are a better team.

You wouldnt say that because you are excluding future pitching additions as well. You dont replace Teo with Gallo and Kiermaier and call it an offseason.

But with Gallo and Kiermaier you have more balance in your lineup and you are much much better defensively.

I think people are romanticizing what Teo did last year. He was a 2.4 fWAR player and once again this is what we have to replace to break even;

Teo, Tapia, JBJ and Zimmer: 2.6 fWAR over 1149 PAs
Gallo and Kiermaier projections: 2.4 fWAR over 882 PAs

They are predicting comparable numbers in 267 less PAs.

Even Teo's 2023 projections arent that impressive. Steamers projects a 2.1 fWAR season from Teo in 2023 across 602 PAs.

Cohen adding extra term to drive down the AAV. Wondering if that still keeps them in the mix for Senga.

Edit: they added Robertson for 1/10 now too and are still in on Senga.

Hard pass on the 8 years.

Get to trading, Ross. I swear to god if your answer is trading Teo away and replacing him with a plug like Joey Gallo i'm going to be pissed.

Cohen isn't done either. The Mets just signed David Robertson and apparently they're still in hot Pursuit for Senga. God damn.

I might consider that Robertson contract a steal. How did he not get more than 1 year?

Yeah, that contract is so long that im not even disappointed at missing out lol. Better off to get a much lesser player with a reasonable financial number attached to them.

There's also the elephant in the room of Nimmo's political beliefs. Super outspoken anti-mask/anti-vaxxer on top of being from Wyoming.

I could definitely see someone like that just scoffing at playing in a Canadian city even with measures/protocol long since gone.

Teo can be replaced easily.. The bullpen help was the point of the trade. Which is desperately needed more than offense.

I told people Nimmo wouldn't sign here. Just using us a bargaining chip

That's fine for us, not so much for the Mets. Without Vlad signed long term we cant handout endless top end contracts

Jesus at these rates how do you even wade into the UFA market. Just wait for these teams to implode and pick up the pieces.

You can replace him easily but likely not with someone of better production/value.

The only really comparable option left out there is Bryan Reynolds and he's going to cost a ransom to acquire.

I suspect if we do make a trade it will be for a less sexier piece than Reynolds.

Better defense > offense. Especially come down to fall baseball... We can outscore teams without Teo. Everybody step away from the panic button, free agency is a shit show. I have pretty decent faith in this management and the direction they seem to be pointing the future in, all signs point to the fact the cheque books are open but they won't rush to get the next flashy object on the market. Mets, Padres, Dodgers, Phillies all have a smaller window to win if we manage it correctly. Our window barely opened and fans want us to sign deals that will tie their hands for years to come on players most are going to be hating on these same forums in a season or 2.
