I am a bit surprised Jays haven’t completed a trade or sign a FA. They appeared to be aggressive by all reports. So either the prices weren’t right or player’s didn’t want to play with Jays.

Said the Jays are looking for another starter. When listing who is leading his rotation he said; Gausman, Manoah and Berrios - no mention of Kikuchi.

While Bellinger was intriguing, there are questions about performance (rising strikeout rates, declining exit velocity) and health (shoulder). Plus, interesting options remain available in that market. The Boras Corp. alone represents various intriguing left-handed hitting outfielders beyond Bellinger with Brandon Nimmo, Michael Conforto and Joey Gallo each of interest.

Beyond the Boras group, other left-handed hitting free agents worth watching include Michael Brantley, in whom they’ve expressed interest, and Kevin Kiermaier.

While Boras described the Blue Jays as more motivated on hitters than pitchers, other industry sources have a different read on the Blue Jays, who are often described as an active team in the starting pitching market. If nothing else, the agent’s comments strongly suggest they’re not among the leading teams on Carlos Rodon, the left-hander who’s now the top free agent pitcher available.

Atkins was just on MLB Network and he ended the interview with;

-We don’t need to trade a catcher
-“We will add a starter (starting pitcher)”
-“We will add an OF to replace Teo. Preferably a left bat, possibly 2 bats.”

This guy seems so incredibly smart and articulate always that he gives me self esteem issues.

Ben Nicholson-Smith’s Notes from Tim and Friends segment

-Nimmo's probably the best player they can end up with at this point, competition shifts from the Yankees to the Giants and others

-They have expressed interest in Nimmo.
-Don't get the impression that the extension talks for Bo and Vlad have happened yet. If they do happen it'll be after the new year, once the arb numbers come in, not a priority right now.

-Within the OF market, less interest in Gallo, as a 4th OF, on the pitching side, have had to add at least 1 starting pitcher, we don't know who but they will add someone.

-Giants are the favourites on Nimmo, Jays are competitive, ~30% Jays, 50% Giants, 20% Mets

I guess I’m dreaming to think of getting any one of their top 3 starters for Kirk?

I don’t see why. Those guys are all stars and so is Kirk.

I would prefer to trade 4 years Kirk for 4 years of Peralta or 7 years of Ashby vs 2 years of Burnes or Woodruff even though the latter is better than the former.

But Jansen, Cimber and Biggio for Ashby checks out. I’d do that. Use the remaining 3 roster spots and $30M on Brantley, Conforto and Rogers.

Most of good players snapped up yup
In recent yrs Toronto has moved to a 2nd tier destination for FA. Just have to be patient and they’ll grab a player or two.
They have too many needs so it’s unrealistic to expect them to fill them all.

Key word is “most” but even that isn’t true.

5 of the top 10 free agents are still available.

Even 9 of the top 18 are still available.

27 of the top 50 have yet to sign.

And there hasn’t been a trade of note that was made since Teo unless you include the Wong or Renfroe trades.

Still VERY VERY early.

God damn what a terrible offseason that lasted *checks notes* a week. Stupid Jays not doing anything.

Nimmo is still out there. There's still plenty of value on the pitching market (Rodon, Senga, Stripling) and trades are always on the table. It's not like hockey where 80% of the big names sign within 12 hours of free agency opening.

The only thing i did find a bit curious is Atkins saying "we don't need to trade a catcher." Now if he meant it in the sense of he doesn't need to trade one right this moment, i can understand that. But if he meant doesn't need to trade one at all? Er yeah, you kinda have to. Your DH spot is basically spoken for already between Springer and then whoever of the 3 catchers is left which means there's almost guaranteed to be someone of value riding pine (or stuck in the minors in Moreno's case)

Plenty of time left before spring training obviously, but still an interesting statement imo.
