And nobody can seem to explain why he was the only one capable of mashing at minor league parks. Plus a .935 OPS is… still elite? He was 145+ wRC+ hitter away from the minor league parks and one of his best months that year came in September.
I'm not saying it was all because of the ballparks. He was seeing the ball extremely well that year, But the numbers are probably a little inflated because of them.

The next 2 years and especially last year was a decline, you can't argue it.

Wasn't our overall team OPS significantly higher in at least one of those two stadiums compared to Rogers?

Yes both of them were significantly more hitter friendly than Rogers that year but it’s not like them being minor league stadiums meant the numbers should be taken with a grain of salt. I’m not really sure why OPS is relevant when we can use park-adjusted stats to determine a player’s batting value.

Vladdy’s OPS+ was bonkers compared to everyone at TD and Sahlen, and was still elite at Rogers. The team’s OPS+ as a whole was above average at TD and Sahlen, but was even better at Rogers.

Literally never said it wasn’t a decline since 2021, but I have argued that what he did last year didn’t match his peripherals for the first time in his career. If he had, it would’ve been easily his 2nd best season of his career.

Here’s hoping he puts it all together for 2024.

I wonder if Bellinger or Chapman has legs.

Our best defensive lineup has IKF and KK batting 8-9.

Bellinger would take at bats from Kiermaier

Chapman would take away at bats from IKF and maybe Martinez

Kiermaier is better than IKF but Bellinger is better than Chapman. I’d take Belli even with an expected regression

Bellinger (or even Soler) would take playing time from IKF too since it would mean the outfielders get more time at DH and push Turner to 3B more often. I think an OF is a much better fit than Chapman.

Maybe the idea of experimenting with 3B Vladdy again might actually happen…

Or trade for Adames/JD Davis.

I'd have a 1 year, 20M safety net offer on the table for Bellinger.

Technically that wouldn’t even cover the qualifying offer he declined.

There’s absolutely a deal out there that guarantees him a higher AAV. But nothing close to the 200m+ that was expected at the beginning of the offseason.

I agree.

If they don't make another move, I wonder how often the Jays would be willing to accept lesser defensive prowess in LF and play one of Biggio, Horwitz, or Schneider in LF (with Varsho in CF) as opposed to the better defensive option with Varsho in LF and KK in CF. They seem to really value defense a lot.

They do, but we need offence. You can always do late game defensive substitutions.

There's a pretty massive difference between one year at $13 million and three years at $14 million.

I just think that it looks like teams are not capitulating to these agents demands. I would think he was asking for more money than that and for a bigger term at the start. I bet Bellinger now also gets much less than he thought he would.
