OEL is very over rated on HF Boards.

He's been overrated for quite some time. Definitely not the top 10 d-man hf makes him out to be but he's still a great defensemen.

I don't know, I don't have a crystal ball. I prefer to evaluate based on things that can be measured and seen right now, and not made up scenarios or things that can't be measured.

I would assume his +/- would go up slightly. Either way that would still leave him in the same range anyway of the dman I listed for points only difference is their +/- would be more even.

0.915 vs 0.890

IDK everything i hear about OEL and everything i see when he plays seem to be backed up by advanced stats. Not says ing hes an elite numbers 1 but i think you are under selling him. Guy is a number 1

I'm sure theres ways to find out what dion''s plus minus would be with Smith and what OEL's would be with bernier

Just a note on his +/-:

OEL was -13 after the first 11 games this season. Which means he has somehow, on this ****** team managed to be a +1 over the last 37 games. OEL tried to gain extra muscle in the offseason to deal with the extra beatings he's taken since teams are keying in on him more. It screwed up his game for the first part of the season as he adjusted to the extra weight.

Wouldn't take him on the Sens for free. OEL and Karlsson would make an awful pairing...

If he was on the leafs he would be considered garbage around here. People would probably claim they wouldn't pick up his contract on waivers.

It's pretty simple. When your team can't score and your goalie has a 0.896 SV% while you're on the ice, you're going to have a bad +/-.

Being overrated on HFBoards is overrated on HFBoards.

Might as well get it all out of the way.

That's not the point. I am not saying he isn't a very good young player, but fans on here are claiming he is a #1 right now, and even some say an elite one.

In what other way can you measure him? Can I claim Jake Gardiner is a top 5 dman and when his points and +/- don't add up claim you obviously don't watch him and his team sucks?

He is over rated in the sense he gets way more credit than he deserves as a player.

I have watched Jake Gardiner play quite a bit and it was really bad. So no, you can't say that.

If Cody Franson can play the minutes that OEL does and as effectively as OEL does I'll eat a shoe.

Might as well just rename this thread "Not about the Leafs and plus/minus...just kidding."

Of course he's overrated on HF

Do you think HF, on average, knows anything about hockey?!

:biglaugh:

That being said, he's still very good and worth a ton in a trade

Let me guess, you'll also say Doughty is overrated as all hell because he hasn't put up that many points this season as well, is that right?

Yes, The Cryotes suck this season and the Kings are lackluster and all the post seasons games they've played, but you can't pin that on both Doughty or OEL.

Truth be told, players like Doughty and OEL control the flow of the game for their respective teams, eat a lot minutes, and are the anchors at the back end. They are players to build around.

I welcome anyone who can give proof/something measurable to disprove what I have said in the OP.

This may surprise you, but goals are a measurable statistic of which OEL has 13 already this year and with only half the season gone. That's one more goal than Dion Phaneuf has had since he's been a Maple Leaf. :naughty:

he does pal

Cody Franson TOI/GP 21:12
Oliver Ekman-Larsson TOI/GP 25:16

Oliver Ekman-Larsson players a little over 4 min more per game. He also plays more on the penalty kill as well.

I would easily rather have Oliver Ekman-Larsson on the Ducks taking him 1 billion times out of 1 billion times over Cody Franson.
