I forgot we lost him, did we ever find a reason behind him leaving for the Ducks?

He lives in SD, so it’s a better commute. And he got a promotion which probably wasn’t on the table in LA. I don’t think there is anyone who is full time in upper management with a college degree.

...and thankfully his predecessor left him with 3 of the 4 most important pieces.
It bears repeating but Quick was never going to be Quick under Dave Taylor. DL hired Ranford and when they got reports back that Quick was sleeping in and missing parts of practice, Ranford went out there to set him straight and get into a routine.

As we are witnessing now, it’s easy to draft but much harder to develop guys.

Just like Brown and Kopitar no doubt. I just love how people will believe anything -- that goalies can only develop under Ranford!

Go look at the GDT thread from GM1 against Vegas and tell me you think this team is actually bad. Everyone's saying "holy s*** this is the best we've played in years!" but now after 3 close-ish games and one stinker, it's time to blow it up? They'll figure it out eventually. Once Byfield and Turcotte are mainstays later in the season, I have a good feeling about our team.

Vegas has only won 1 game and is actually worse than we are , so far

There was also a lot of "Kings played well but Vegas was also garbage".

I still like the moves Blake made in the offseason. The team is "better" than last year but they still don't seem like a team, if that makes sense.

Adding talent isn't going to mean anything if they don't become a team. It seems lame to say, cliched even, but it is true. This is a sport where buy-in and a team that cares about one another can overcome talent deficiencies. This team isn't good enough to just go out and hope they outscore the other team while not getting their hands dirty.

It continues to be dangerous for the development of this prospect pool to be on this team that lacks spirit and balls. While top ranked, this prospect pool isn't necessarily teeming with dudes that have that "everyone jump on my back and let's go get it" mentality and they are currently cutting their teeth on a team that doesn't have much of that either.

Is it the GM or the coach? Well, Blake hires the coach, gets the players and is supposed to be creating the culture. He is going to need to realize that this isn't the right coach but then who is his next hire? I'm willing to look at this like T-Mac is his 2nd hire and just toss Willie D and his interim status in the dumpster with the criticism of the Willie D hiring being that they were supposedly still trying to win hockey games. Regardless, toss it aside and let's say T-Mac is his 2nd coach. The difference between this second coach and Terry Murray for DL is that T-Mac is really Blake's dude like Sutter was DL's. Blake really hitched his wagon to this hire...five years at $5MM per is top-tier coaching money. He's making more money this season than every player on the team except for Kopitar and Doughty.

It's really tough to walk back this hire but what does Blake do if they are in the cellar after 15 games? I'm sure he is just going to ride it out but Blake started spending AEG's money again this off-season and I can't imagine they will be stoked if there isn't an improvement this season.

I think I am in the minority here, but I disagree. I think by most objective metrics Blake has been steady in rebuilding the team, drafting, acquiring talent. I also see the system T Mac wants to run (the Vegas game being the prime example of that) and it's exciting and effective when the players are working. Also, by most metrics, we've been controlling the game in most scenarios. I just think our failures are growing pains from young players, and growing pains from a transition of old players.

I will say something about Luc though. My sister works for the Kings as an ice girl type position, and one innocuous thing she said was that Luc wants games/the game atmosphere to be more like Soccer games.

I may be reading to much into this, but I wonder if the greater organizational philosophy is trying to acquire a Soccer like team. That would explain the focus on high skill, low contact hockey, our record of the types of players we have been acquiring and drafting...too bad hockey isn't Soccer and one cheap knee can take out your best Dman in a second.

As if I needed another reason to want Luc gone.

I mean is this really a bad thing?

Instead of showing up late, busy talking to one another, less concern with Snoop Dog but actual fans standing up, singing along like "Ole", showing some life.......just as long as they don't have those f***ing horns! Sound pretty fun if you ask me.

Did anyone hear the sing along of The Anthem at the Blues game? It gave me chills.

Oh and uh, @lexlavender, can you uh...well......post a pic of your sister? Thanks!

I don't think the sentiment of having a Soccer like atmosphere is bad, but if this a is a philosophy about how to build a hockey team as well, I think you run into some issues.

And unfortunately I won't post a pic of my sister, but I guarantee you can see her if you look at the jumbotron in a game :3

A little too doom n gloomy round these parts after 5 games. Kings special teams are clearly bad and waaay worse without Doughty. It's too small a sample size to make sweeping generalizations about anything at all, but the Kings play at 5v5 has not been bad.

- 2nd in CF%
- 3rd in Shots For%
- 7th in xGF
- 9th in xGF%
- 12th in Scoring Chance For%
- 5th in High Danger Chance For%
- 18th in Shooting %
- 19th in Save %
- 19th in PDO

These numbers are more akin to mid-2010s Kings and not so much the last 2 years.

Kings gave up 4 pp goals and 1 shorthander vs StL.

They are also still finding the right mix of forwards up front and are missing an entire line of guys who will slot in when healthy. That being said, they should be able to somewhat get by without them.

Biggest concerns:
- big dropoff on D after #8. No one currently fills that void and the special teams are going to suffer because of it.
- all aspects of the PK have to improve drastically, only team worse is the Coyotes
- Kings can't finish! again. Kaliyev playing with a couple line drivers is exactly what needs to happen, so should be revealing to see him skating with 19 and 24 tonight. Danault line is leading the NHL in shots per 60 minutes. But Kempe feels redundant there since he can't finish and is too inconsistent. Puck Distributor/Forechecker/Finisher is the ideal line combo, let's see what they can do.
- did I say they can't finish? what else is new.
- edit: I would add Vilardi as a concern. Eye opening how not great he has been without Andersson. If he needs a linemate to drive play it's not a great sign for him as a top 6/9 center going forward.

I don't think he knows how to build a soccer team or a hockey team. I think he know entertainment though.

So we get it now???

We could have avoided this 4 yrs ago by not hiring Blake!

But just like anything else in life (including our current zeitgeist), better to wake up late than never!

Lombardi was a seasoned, driven professional sports executive. Rob Blake accomplished zero as a sports executive and was handed a top job. It’s nepotism any way you cut it. BLuc have made a ton of money by counting on Kings fans to be naive people who love to drink the koolaid.
