I started reading this thread and came over this in #18.

It just about says it all, we can't score, no goals no win. I don't understand whats wrong, with so much skill on our team.

I don't see the Rangers in round 2, sorry.
 
Rangers didn't play well, Lundqvist didn't play well, refs didn't play well, Caps played their game. I don't think the Caps can play much better, but I know the Rangers and Lundqvist can play better. I have a feeling we're not going to get much better officiating, at least in Washington.

I don't generally complain about reffing, but wow was that a **** show. Called us for a few questionable penalties, but when Perrault pulled Stralman down and there wasn't a call I about threw up. Then they scored seconds later.

I really don't agree with this. The Caps did a lot of good things last night.

Holtby played well...no surprise, he also played well in last year's series.

McDonagh and Girardi deserve criticism for letting Johansen get behind them for the second goal, but that was an incredible pass and some AMAZING skating by Johansen. Rangers better keep an eye on this guy.

Caps obviously came out with a plan to put anything and everything on net from anywhere on the ice, and that plan worked.

Caps were engaged right from the opening faceoff...Rangers were not.

Caps took a page out of our book and blocked a LOT of shots...and because they were in the way they also forced us to shoot wide on occasion.

Their power play is obviously superior.

I'm still confident we can do better, but saying 'Rangers beat themselves' means you are only looking at the game through Ranger blinders.

Should be fun.
 
yea its just game 1, but its the same issue as every year, we cant score. id honestly feel better about this series if we lost 4-3 or 5-4. we cant win a cup expecting to win every game 1-0 or 2-1. until we actually prove we can score 3 or 4 or 5 goals(god forbid!) in the playoffs i dont see us getting out of this round.

They came very close to being shut out.
 
Hard to blame Hank but the 3rd goal was a killer, PP sucks, too many stupid penalties, and please Nash grow a pair, 2 guys fall on Cally inthe crease and he stands there and does nothing..believe we will see Staal and Boyle next game...

Exactly...

I'm not too worried to be honest. The team generated a good amount of scoring chances. Unfortunately it was one of those nights where the puck wouldn't go in. That won't continue... At least hopefully.

The bottom line though is that the team created a good number of scoring chances and statistically speaking, they'll start going in if they continue to create them.

The bold seriously concerns me.

The Rangers had problems moving the puck during the regular season against some lousy teams. Against a good team that is properly coached we are in serious trouble.

And if Torts can't at the very least get the team skating with purpose then I fail to see what he brings to the table at all. I'm pretty sure the letters X and O aren't that familiar to him.

Sorry Jersey Girl, but I have to disagree you with as well :)

I think Girardi and McDonagh having their heads in the clouds all game is not because of anything the Caps did, but what the Rangers did to beat themselves. Same with Lundqvist giving up that third goal, which I believe was the second back breaker of the night (behind the inept 5 on 3... so much for that "extended training camp" and "all that special teams work" )

At no point did I find the Caps unbeatable last night. I suspect (or hope, I guess) that we see a different Rangers team come tomorrow afternoon.

And those of you placing this one on the officials, they were soft both ways. That wasn't NHL playoff officiating, especially when looking around the league at what other teams are doing to each other (Callahan two for roughing? HA!) But the Beagle call was soft as baby poop. He grazed Moore (I think it was Moore) Beags probably didn't hear the icing call being made by the linesman. I've seen officials let the boys play with more contact on a play like that.

I don't want to rush Staalsy back, but boy does he make the D better. Hope he's ready to go for game 2!

We're injured, so we lack the approrpiate depth.

I'd swap Nash and Cally for game two. Overload that top line with our best current O-guys. I don't think this is a true panic move because the chemistry has been there before between Hags-Step-Nash.

But getting guys like Dorsett, Clowe, and Boyle back into the lineup would do wonders for the Rangers depth. Hopefully it happens sooner than later... But I've lost hope in Clowe for this series. Dorsett, not 'til game 5. Boyle can be back soon, but I don't know if they want to rush him.

In any case, you're never really in trouble until you lose on home ice, which is why it would be so great to win tomorrow ;)

No, its like saying why BS yourself when it comes to the likely outcome of these playoffs?

Blind hope doesnt make you any better of a fan.

"Anything can happen" is a nice thing to say, but anything usually doesnt happen with the Rangers. In my 25 years as a fan, the season ended just about where it should've.

(except 1992 - that team shouldve went further)

Neither does unwarranted pessimism.

This team has plenty of talent, can they put it together and make some noise? I am hoping so, saying they aren't very good is just an easy way out.

Thinking that this team might squeak by the Caps and lose in the 2nd round is "unwarranted pessimism?"

The third and fourth line really seem to be the only products of injuries. I like the hags step Cally line but I want Nash with step

What part of it? The goaltending? The defense? The forwards? Special teams? Is the team devoid of talent? Lazy?

We have the best goalie in the league who looks average. A defense that is solid (even without Staal) that looks bewildered. Some of the faster players in the league who looks slow. A heart and soul captain who is invisible. A superstar who look disinterested. The PP is a mess. The PK can be just as bad. The team has problems getting out of their own zone. And worse problems gaining the other zone...

Its pretty obvious to me, and has been since last year. The Rangers get by the regular season because of individual efforts. From Lundqvist. From the members of our talented D. And from certain forwards, some more than others.

When the Rangers have to play a team that is not only talented, not only well coached, but has a chance to study the Rangers game plan, they are in trouble. Unless Hank or someone else takes over the game, or the Rangers seriously outwork the opposition, the Rangers lose.

Their inability to transition is horrifying. You don't need to be an all star to make a crisp pass. The Rangers never seem to know where their teammates are. If I had a nickel for every time the puck was swung around the boards (in either zone) to the no one, or a D man tried a mile long stretch pass to no one, or the puck was thrown across the ice to no one... I would be able to buy the team.
 
In the regular season this team scored 9 times 1 goal per game, 8 times 2 goals per game and 5 times 0 goals per game. Almost all other times when Rangers scored more than 2 goals they played against non playoff teams with some rare exceptions. What should change this time of the year for this team so they can start scoring some goals? (Non lucky ones)!!!

i dont see how that helps our main problem, offense, whatsoever.
