Confirmed Trade: [NYR/VAN] JT Miller, Erik Brannstrom, Jackson Dorrington for Filip Chytil, Victor Mancini, 2025 1st round pick (top 13 protected)

If Rangers fans and Canucks fans, along with other outside fans, can’t play nice in here will have to lock this thread.

I Don’t want to , but the banter needs to stop. Focus on the players and trade that happened.

I understand today will be an emotional game for both fan bases so let’s try and be civil about it.

The 1st rounder was business as usual, we got a very good prospect in return in Mancini, and we got a roster player in Cythil. The fans seems to like Mancini a lot. Don't forget Miller is 32.... and a 7 more years tied to him. Us getting rid of that contract is also a win.

Eichel was also coming off a risky, experimental neck surgery. There was no guarantee he would be the same player.

They also could’ve gotten more if there weren’t those question marks.

A lot of people seem to really dislike the idea that a trade can benefit both teams in different ways.

Actually, he hadn't undergone the procedure yet because the Sabres wouldn't allow it. Under the CBA, the team has final say on medical matters.

It was only after he had been traded to Las Vegas that Eichel had the surgery which is why despite being acquired in early November, he didn't suit up for the Knights until the middle of February.

Eichel's trade value was obviously impacted by the fact that the team acquiring him was going to take the risk of having him undergo artificial disc replacement surgery.

Correct. Again he just turned 32. He’s not that old. Trade was worth it. Also Drury can relinquish the 2025 pick to Pitt if he wants to

I agree with this. It's not a Canuck fan thing but an HFBoards thing in general, where when a player turns 30+ the decline is imminent and therefore a terrible contract. Even though actual GM's are signing these contracts all the time.

Obviously Miller will decline at some point but I think he'll continue to play well through most of his current contract. As has been pointed out he scored 103 points last season and this one despite all the issues is just below a PPG. Really what it comes down to is sometimes a team just needs to move on from a player and it comes down to accommodating the move and getting some value back in return, but the value is never going to be equal. In this case it looked like Vancouver did a pretty good job getting value back, but with Chytil being damaged goods and still under contract for 2 more years it's only a mediocre return.

The Canucks were initially a much improved team after the trade but now Chytil unfortunately for team & player looks like he's just going to be an LTIR headache.

This has nothing to do with miller being on the wrong side of 30.

If the EP40 drama never happened, do you really think canucks fans would still be trashing miller and saying he sucks because of his age?

miller literally had 100+ points last year. Yet nucks fans are trying to convince us that he’s a cap dump with a terrible contract lol

Not so sure what's so hard to understand. He has been crap all year. He was the center of all the drama. Clearly didn't want to be here .Since he left we overall look better. Getting rid of a player showing signs of decline at the age where most players start to exit their prime wasn't the worst move.


He isn't a cap dump at the moment but he could become one with that contract. Odds are he will never see a 100+ season again. If he hits PPG NY should chop that up as a W.

blows my mind how people don’t grasp the clauses he has in his contract.

Friedman told the entire story to Dhaiwal and how he utilized them.
Friedman brought up Kesler who used the same advantage to choose one team.

His wife was already back in Philly where she is a a designer where they live in the offseason. He used said clauses in other proposed trades

And he would only wave for a very limited number of teams around that area. And guess what???? most weren’t interested

How do you get a return with only one or two destinations?

Given the circumstances, it was absolutely a very good return for him. In reality, the Rangers should have squeezed the Canucks and acquired him for next to nothing like a mid/late 2nd if they were to take on his full contract, like they did. You know, a cancerous player with a monster contract who seemed to be on the decline.

Instead they gave up a 1st round pick which might be very high (albeit Pittsburgh will own it now) and a promising young Defenseman who has upside. Now, I mean obviously if they traded him @ his peak 2-3 years ago they would have gotten better value, sure, obviously. That's a nonsencial argument though (idk it's that what you are arguing or not) because he was playing very good @ that time and they had no reason to think of moving him @ that point.


I'm a Ranger fan, can tell you most fans on our board aren't happy with the trade and the player. The issue is two fold, however. 1st is JT Miller straight up isn't a difference maker or 'great' player anymore (if he ever truly was one) and 2nd given the state of the team/org, it was a bad move to acquire him.

Miller is more of what the Rangers already have. Meh complimentary type players. Ranger fans saw what a true difference maker looked like in the game today (that they had no business winning) who isn't a goalie, in Quinn Hughes.
 
I think Quinn probably wishes he was setting up Miller so the Canucks could actually win the game.

Canucks are in a tough place because they have uncertainty over EP40 and Demko due to re-occurring injuries and also has Hughes playing hurt.

The Canucks need to prioritize winning while they have Q.Hughes and also making sure they keep Hughes as long as possible.

I think they should take a shot at L. Hughes with a big offer sheet this offseason.

This EP40 - Miller talk should enter a new thread, or just take place on the Vancouver section.

NYR didn't trade for Pettersson. We traded for Miller. The stats between them isn't relevant to us or this trade.
