We really had two problems with our defense the last couple of years when Trouba was here.

1) It had two absolute hell no's in the top 4.

2) It needed a significant talent upgrade regardless.

The thing I'm afraid of is that they solved the first one, so now they're just gonna paper over the second one with a bunch of Some Guys and that's it, that's what we're going to war with. Fox and some guys we found.
Pretty much my view. Confounding how for a decade now those in charge have failed to put an emphasis on D. Even more so when you consider our franchise player went from one goalie to another.

You'd think that a team investing so much in their goaltender would try and give them the most stout D-corps on earth. But hey - what do I know?

We had one year where it really looked glorious with the addition of Stralman and then we let him walk and frankly have never recovered.

It's not a perfect solution, but if people want a quick plan that isn't "wait however many years to actually draft a legit center," you go out and get another #1 defenseman. Preferably left-handed and you put him on the "second pair."

If you have no obvious path to fill the holes you have on a hypothetical Cup roster, you stack the position you know you have filled already and make it overwhelming.

Again, I don't think it's a great idea, but a lot of people don't want to rebuild into oblivion, and I get that. The fastest track to this team becoming good is making significant upgrades to a defense corps that already has Adam Fox.

If the goaltender, that you invested so much in, needs to be provided with the "most stout D-corps on earth" then why did you need to invest so much in that goaltender in the first place?

Investing so much in a goalie should allow you to spend less than most teams on the defense since he should be able to make up for a lesser d core. If he can't then there was no point in paying him.

Rangers when you tell them a defenseman’s job isn’t just defending

Maybe semantics but IMO top goalie should allow his team to spend less on top-end forwards, not D core.

It's absolutely unreal how people are ok with our goalie being as good as the D around him. It's absolute insanity. What the f*** did we spend 11.5M for him for? And beyond that this f***ing bum has lost enough games where we were the better team. He had a stretch of like 4 games this season where he was prime Hasek. Now he's f***ing Cloutier. He's not even as good as the D around him. And Quick is hit or miss, when it's miss it looks like what we see today.

I hope it's just difficulty in adjusting to a new team/system, but he hasn't been good. He has 18 more games to show us something.

It wasnt his team. he gets blamed for many of the problems but Gorton acquired and drafted many of the players on last year's team. Only now after all these trades do we have a clearer vision of Drury's plan.
His vision sucks

Got absolutely embarassed and dangled by (albeit an infinitely better) fellow defenseman tonight.
