"we are getting an all world Center for at least two or three years before he declines" - said many when Rad Brichards was signed.

Just sayin'.....

Wahhhh sad day for the franchise waahhhhh

please.... we got an elite scorer and don't have to pay captain injury 40 point intangibles 6 x 6. Oh so we lost a 1st. Positives easily outweigh the negatives.

Callahan made his bed. cya later bye

We are a better team now AND in the future without that albatross of a contract hanging over our necks.

Please stop the whining and realize this was a smart move.

i understand a trade kinda needed to be made, but MSL is at the end of his career. To me, unenlightened as i am, this smacks of the bone-head moves made in the late 90s and early 2000s....

Uh - we've been the dominant team for a majority of the season - outside of the last two games, and the first 10.

God, people can never just be happy. Let's at least see where this takes us.

If dominant you mean only being 1 point from being out of the top 8, then I agree.

I'm a little upset, Z.

I really do love MSL. One of my favorite players. He's also just under 40, and his contract expires at the end of next year. If it was straight up, I might be able to stomach it. But we turned from sellers to buyers, and used a rental as a chip. In no universe is that a good idea.

Sather had the best year of Rangers hockey in nearly 20 years, and then relapsed into his old addiction. A MSL who's only got a few years left, a Richards who's about to be bought out, Nash, who I don't think will ever win anything. I don't even mind Richards, actually.

Sell the future for an aging superstar. Sather found the only way to outdo himself. Sell the team captain, AND the future for the aging superstar.

I get people are upset, but "sell the future" is a gross exaggeration. The 2015 first can, and like will, be replaced by the 2015 draft. That is SO far away, and there are plenty of good young players knocking on the door. A Fast, a Miller, an Allen take a spot, suddenly we have a surplus roster player, suddenly we have something to move for a first in return.

"Selling the captain" isn't how I'd put it. Callahan made it clear from the very beginning that staying here was never a priority. That's fine. He can do whatever he pleases. I think it's kinda silly from his standpoint, but that's just me. Him alone as a chip wasn't worth very much. I think it was a bit of a PR saver for TB. "Look, we got a captain back! It's all good!"

We can say what we will about the best team in 20 years being broken up but this was the absolute smaller part of that. They let go one piece of that team who was a rental for a top scorer.

Nash - Richards - MSL line? Then again MSL is known to work with young guys so MSL & Kreider would work nicely as well. I think the Rangers will miss some of Callahan's attributes but I would take MSL over Callahan anyday. Pretty good pickup IMO.

This was not a win now team. This is a 6-10 seed team that got hot for one month or so. Yes we are better now, although I want to see who picks up the grunt work we lose in Cally, but this is not a cup contenting team.
This comes down to Dolan and the Knicks sucking and a brand new MSG that they spent a billion dollars on fixing up and possibly being empty from the begining of April until end of September!

Bingo

some how by adding msl we suddenly have a pretty decent top 6 ?

kreider stepan nash
hags beev msl

his 29/32 for 61 certainly helps us

welcome to the nyr marty !!! :handclap:

Fair point. But do you think MSL will do the same? I don't. Looking at BR's entire career he'd have bad seasons here or there. he had a significant concussion and decline the year before he signed, he had never proven he can play through age. MSL has just been something that comes around once a generation. hard to say anything compares. of course 40 yo is still 40 but some guys can be special. Broduer, Teemu, it happens

St Louis demanded a trade. He has an NMC and can go where he wants. He wanted to go to the Rangers. Rangers had good leverage here. As much as it's hard to think of it as it is, Cally isn't a star and is a rental now, he's not worth that much.

Rangers got MSL for way less than he'd cost other teams. He's older for sure, but even if he plays well this year and next year, and saved NYR from that Callahan contract mistake, that's a good deal IMO. The first can be replaced before the 2015 draft.

Dont forget to take away a quarter of the season, which seems to be a comical refrain around here when trying to define this teams "win now" attributes.

This team isn't a "win now" team and they aren't a "rebuilding" team. What the heck are they?

At some point you have to package together middle of the road players and get an elite talent. MSL is that, signed at a good clip. Everything about this team is significantly better than before MSL. The offense is going to be light years better.

Yeah he actually was, two seasons before he signed here.

Reigning Hart trophy winner??

Richards and St. Louis aren't on the same level. I get what you're saying and I am generally against adding 38 year olds, but I have all the faith in the world that MSL will be a good get for us now and the next couple years.

Nash, Richards, St. Louis
Kreider, Stepan, Hagelin
BrassGodZukieDukieLine

or

Nash, Stepan, Kreider
Hags, Richards, St.Louis
