Here's Mikkola feeding Kakko 3 apples for a hat trick during the 2019 IIHF championship.
If this trade makes Kakko break out, then we underpaid.

Which is it? If our window is the next 2-3 years, then you must not expect those young assets to be able to carry the team in a few years.Rangers window is pretty much the next 2-3 years whether we like it or not. What happens after that is murky at best. It's also realistic to assume whoever the rangers draft this year won't be ready for at least 2-3 years. In 2-3 years certain veteran players will be traded for picks and prospects. Rangers will hopefully still have Laf, Chytil, Kakko, Kravtsov, Otmann as the transition core. You plug the other holes by signing players.
You really make it sound like the rangers have no young assets. We aren't the freaking Islanders here. We're still one of the top 5 youngest teams in the league.
Curious to know the source that the Rangers goal is to win one or two rounds. Did Drury say that? Gallant? Dolan?
You said exactly that, so what's the evidence?
Every player hopes to win it all.
You probably shouldn’t do things that have proven not to work, glad you learned that.Today I learned it's not about the trade, it's about the trade tree. And if you are the GM from 2021-present your approach should be dependent on how many cups your franchise has won in the previous century.
Your last paragraph should be the plan.Panarin has someone to show off to now
Add a Motte... and we're goodish
Laffy Chytil Kakko
Panarin Zibs Tank
Kreider Trocheck Vesey
Motte Goodrow Gauthier
I like Cuylle... he's not really ready. I'm sure he'll get a look but Motte is a proven performer
or they can put Kravtsov with two 'stronger' board players, in Kreider and Trocheck, and drop Vesey to the 4th.
One can only hope that translate into playing well in real games.Drury was quoted praising Kravy a bit today and was asked why he wasn’t in the lineup and he said it’s up to Turk, but drury thinks he played a lot of good hockey and has been practicing well.
We keep the better pick. It remains to be seen if that results in the better player. We keep the higher of the two picks.
That would be a cool stipulation, demanding we get the better player.
Drury made sure the rebuild was over the day JD and Groton were let go. Our time is NOW!In reality we have a roster to win a cup.
Centers - high end 1C, two 2Cs
Wingers - 3 star wingers
Defense - easily a top 5 in the league
Elite goaltender
Shesty goes on a tear and we could easily win this.
no masYou probably shouldn’t do things that have proven not to work, glad you learned that.
Tl;tl;dr
What I’m saying is that, we have no idea which puck will be “better” until quite some time after the choices are made. We retained the right to pick first. We keep the better pick. It remains to be seen if that results in the better player.
Any time people write higher or lower, there's just confusion as to what that means. By saying better, there's no confusion.
Honestly, it's hard to say where the team will be in 3 years. There is clearly 2 distinct generations on the team. We know what we have with the older generation and right now we are somewhat of a contender. While you are in contender status you have to be willing to give up some assets. Considering Drury only lost one real asset this deadline (1 of his 2 first round picks), I'd say that is a win. He can still build for the future and went in on improving this team for this run.Which is it? Yes, anyone we select this year won't be ready for 2-3 years, which helps us to extend that 2-3 year window.
Do you want 2 or 3 chances at the cup and then rebuild again? Or do you want to have a chance at the cup every year?
I always get tripped up with the language around these. “Higher” meaning lower number pick I’m assuming? We keep the higher of the two picks.

That is correct (as I understand it).I always get tripped up with the language around these. “Higher” meaning lower number pick I’m assuming?
I mean Meier is a pipe dream at this point. I don’t see any way the money works without robbing Peter to pay Paul.10 93 tank

Like I said two months ago this roster needed 4 pieces: two top 9 rws and two defensemen. They got 1 of the 4 pieces they need. The defensemen dont need to be stars, but Braun like #6 and #7 guys for playoff reinforcements. Wont be surprised if Braun somehow ends up here again this year.
Meier ends up here for kravtsov and 24 1st?
Agreed. Like I said, I'm not freaking out about trading the pick. I was just arguing against the idea that people want the picks because they're expecting a 50 goal scorer. We need NHL players on cheap contracts to ensure that we can be a good team for more than 2-3 years.Honestly, it's hard to say where the team will be in 3 years. @Savant , c'mon bro. NYR, Liberty, and Mets are 2023 champs. The SC is ours to lose.Still need two bottom six players and Igor to be hot to have a chance. Either way I get to see them on Saturday
They have Kakko, Chytil, Laf, Fox, Schneider, Miller who are all under 25. The team is still young plus we kept all of our top prospects and still have a first, 2nd, and two 3rds in this years draft. They will be competitive for a long time.Agreed. Like I said, I'm not freaking out about trading the pick.
