This trade is a massive win. We keep the BETTER first round pick, kept all our prospects (Othmann, Cuylle, Jones, even Krav), added a defesneman to move Harpur to 7th D, Taraensko was our glaring need for a top 6 shoot first winger that will slide Vesey down to bottom 6 and bolster that........

And people STILL complain. Unbelievable...actually...its not, its very believable because some of you are just miserable people who will never enjoy cheering for a team that is 6th in the NHL in Points% coming off a surprise ahead of schedule Conference Finals Run.

I personally would rather shoot a shot with the lesser 1st round pick of OUR TWO, by using it to add a top 6 shooting/scoring winger in the last season we figure to have this kind of cap to do so, than to stockpile 20 1st rounders from 20-32 over the next 5 years and win the ultimate prize of having the best prospect pool.

Cup with Tarasenko >>>>>>> Dom from the Athletic ranking our prospect pool as #1 for 10 years straight because we kept both our 2023 1st rounders

Just wait for a sale in a couple months

Thats what I'm leaning towards.

I rarely jump at anything day of unless its something I've really been waiting for (GOW for example, which I'm glad I did because it was awesome.)

This title has really had me intrigued for a while and I was confident that they'd find a way to f*** it up. Most of what I've heard has been really positive though.

Explain to me how filling their most glaring need is similar in any way to the aging Lundqvist Rangers adding Eric Staal.
Cause Gallant isn't gonna use him on PP1 (since he knows geometry) and the donks are gonna yell about our coach not utilizing our new piece properly.

True, I missed that condition on it.

Either way. I give up a 1st and a 3rd (knowing I have another 1st that will be a better pick) and keep my top prospects in a deal like this, no problem.
I hear you. It's the way things are done. Doesn't mean I have to like it. We are against the cap...having more young high end cost controlled prospects is a good thing. I knew there was no chance Drury would hold on to two 1st rounders. My preference would have been to trade a first round pick for a player with some term remaining since rentals almost never work out. But it is what it is. At least it's not like the old days where we go years without a first round selection.

Lol did the same with GOW. Bought at full price

I think you guys will enjoy Vlad. He’s had one foot out the door for two years now and I think pairing up with his buddy Panarin will reinvigorate him. He was his biggest cheerleader when Panarin was first coming over, but Ken Hitchcock thought he was too small  . Hope it works out for you guys, cheers.

I hope Blais can find himself going back there. It just didn’t work out here.

Blues have always been a classy organization
To me, wish you guys the best.

I don't see the big imperative to use him on the powerplay or not.

If the powerplay is running well, then it's running well. If it's not, he offers a different look.

Play it by ear, and make that decision on merit, not what "should" be.

He's here to do a job for us. We're under no obligation to use him on the powerplay to build confidence like a younger player.

If he's good at even strength, who cares where else the chips fall? What, the main boards might glance at his stats and shit on the trade? Those people don't shower.

Panarin Zibanejad Tarasenko
Lafreniere Chytil Kakko
Kreider Trocheck Vesey/Kravtsov
Vesey/Kravtsov Goodrow Gauthier

Looks sick to me. Trade for another depth forward at the deadline like a Motte from last year and were good to go.
Cuylee/Goat/Kravy for the 3rd spot on the 4th line

Our PP has been awful of late. Adding Taraenko could really give PP2 a bump and a reason to use them more.

We know PP1 won't change.
But now with Tarasenko coming in, GG will be more inclined to use PP2 I feel, especially so with PP1 operating at like 11% recently:

Laf-Kakko-Chytil-Tarasenko-Miller

It'll likely be Trouba PP2, because Gallant. And Laf will likely not be allowed to play netfront where hes scored a few goals recently because Goodrow "needs" to play there, but Tarasenko on his one timer with Kakko on his forehand and Chytil in the bumper has potential

Drury gave up a 1st to rent both players. Tarasenko at 50%. Blais was added for cap reasons. Skinner was a scratch in the AHL. Another mid round pick. The value isn't bad but hate giving up #1 pick. It would have cost 2nd or 3rd to rent a D but the rental D market is bad this season. 2nd for someone like Barbashev. Drury made his trade deadline moves 22 days before the deadline.

I actually love this.

They have a really, really tough stretch starting tomorrow. I'd much rather have my ducks in a row and press with most (if not all?) of what I'm going to go to war with in the spring than sit around and trot bullshit like Blais, Leshitshow and Harpur out there against some of the best teams in the league.

Not to mention you also have that time remaining to make any finishing touches you need to make on this roster and don't have to bog yourself down trying to chase your more pressing needs (remember the 2012 deadline when Sather was so fixated on Nash that he forgot to do anything else?)

Short of being able to land a middle six forward at a great rate that we can some how fit under the cap, the last remaining thing for me would be to get a quality 4th line player who can PK and has some zip and grind.

Sad that Sammy got boned by that pos Subban. Real good dude and it appears a very popular teammate.

Wish this place would of shown this guy a bit more empathy regarding his shitty situation.

I bet he does way better back in St Louis than he ever could here. Got get em Sammy!
