Also, as if the Rangers were going to get value out of that first round pick lol.

There’s literally nothing this franchise sucks more at.

I’m almost always in the “play it safe” camp at the TDL, because I just don’t trust this team, but I like this trade a lot.

Rangers are a "non-elite playoff" team but are 3rd in the NHL in Goals Against per game. Is that not elite defense or is there some made up stat someone can pull to tell me why we actually suck?

That's only because Shesterkin covers up their bad defense.

But Shesterkin is also only average this year.

They should be going for it every year while Igor is cheap, and these kids aren’t making a lot of money.

Late first round picks are overvalued.

Feels like the words “first round pick” carry more value in a trade than the actual
players they tend to produce lol
I think the only HFBoards argument that ever made me apoplectic was someone trying to say Brady Skjei was a bad draft pick after he had already played 2-3 seasons for us or whatever

as of now we have our first, second and third in what people say is a good draft. Keep it that way. Overall good trade

Tarasenko is having a down year for counting numbers but that isn't necessarily a bad thing.

First of all, the underlying numbers are showing poor shooting luck by his standards.

It also kept the price much lower versus if he were tearing it up.

Moving to a team more in the thick of things might be a nice reset for him. I was less inclined to buy that with Kane because the analytics tell us that Kane is just ass and has been for years. Not the case at all with Tarasenko.

Counting numbers aside, he has space-opening skill which we desperately need. It's going to help us even if he doesn't put up a ton of points.

It's confirmed it will be the later of the 1st round picks so that's good.

So in total:

-A Late 1st,
-A 4th
-Blais
-Skinner

for

-Tarasenko at 50%
-Mikkola.

Two Players who both address specific needs on this team right now and didn't give up anything of major value aside from the late 1st.

This is a major W by Drury. Like big time.

Isn't the 4th really a 3rd?

I don't ever love the idea of going after the guys at the top end of the rental market. They just rarely have the impact that you expect.

That being said, we filled the two biggest needs in the lineup with a single trade and the only thing we gave up of real value was a late first round pick.

Hopefully this will be enough to get Panarin to stop pouting.

I wonder if Tarasenko gets deployed on the RW on our PP giving us the right side one timer option a la Kucherov.

Top 5 in odds for the Cup is about where I’d do it. Not sure they are even too 5 in the East.

Whose clearly ahead of them?

Boston? Yup they're a wagon.
Carolina? They're good too though they've been a consistent 2 and out for a while now.
Toronto? Sure but replace the 2 and out with 1.
Tampa is still Tampa so if you want to throw them in there I'll buy it.

Carolina is the only team in our division in that group. Some may say NJ but I'd peep their analytics, they've been ass for a while now and thats a team with next to no experience and they're really small. That never plays in the spring.

Second deadline in a row Drury pulled off trades precisely for the weak spots in the lineup. If nothing else, he has shown awareness of the issues and a discipline not to over course-correct.

Sather would go for the big name and figure out the lineup after.
