When a guy like him who was a risky pick starts turning negatives into positives you know you've got a good one. Kid is pretty damn smart and a hard worker, he wants it you can tell. He's getting thick too.

Saw him last year. So imposing.

The honest to god best thing I noticed about him, he stood out even when doing nothing. Looked like a pro, carried himself like a pro...didn't make any mistakes. It's crazy, he's so imposing that anytime on the ice, you had to take notice.

I agree. With that said, they need to compliment him with someone up front. Dorsett is a gamer, but they need one other guy. I'm not asking for too much, the guy doesn't need to be a heavyweight who can't play.

I agree with this. The Rangers need some bigger meaner guys that can also play. I'm not sure how they address that short term, but hopefully it gets taken care of sooner rather than later.

We need a guy like Clowe before all his useful years are behind him.

Am I on the Rangers board or is this a dream..guys that actually like guys who can beat people up..if McNasty, the French killer and Graves were to all make it to the Rangers in a few years we would have the most feared defense. What will likely happen is we trade all three for russian players who have all the skill and no desire

McNasty, Sammy The Bull Noreau, and Ryan Gravedigger

When was his skating ever a negative, though? I remember it needing a bit of work, but he's always been known as a big guy who can get out of his own way, ya know? He has certainly improved it even further since he was drafted, though! :)

Like you, I love the work ethic of the kid.

Exactly. His top end speed and movement for a big guy has always been very good for a guy his size.

Great to hear he continues to work although that was never questionable to me. The kid has great character and a great head on his shoulders. Future Captain on this team.

I remember Clark and Gorton saying that his skating given how much time he'd seriously spent dedicated to the game was very impressive. The kid is a tremendous athlete. Everyone I've spoken with who has actually watched him agrees with that and the fact and that he's a sharp, centered guy. Feet on the ground.

Thanks guys. I figured Tolchinsky would get a heavy look since it was once discusse that he could've gone in the 2nd or 3rd rounds on Sunday. & again I realize it's the first day & it's only tests & drills, but what othe insight do you have on the other invitees, especially the NCAA goaltenders? Fellow Russian Alex Gogolev?

Jeff Malcolm obviously just helped carry Yale to the first ECAC NCAA championship in a long, long time. He's now got the "clutch" factor attacked to him. His numbers aren't outstanding, his style reminds me of Ryan Miller a bit.

I think he has AHL upside. Better than Stajcer or Missiaen. I've got Cam Talbot rated higher by a fair margin.

Well dont I feel stupid. I would think NHLers would have a bit higher Body Fat % to help absorb some of the hits. 8% doesnt leave much cushioning on the frame. My apologies.

no worries...it just burns me that they are wasting a year with the hope that Richards will bounce back when he really isn't putting in the time or effort...what I hope is that he sucks and by midseason he is in the press box and bought out next year. I don't want the guy to suck...he lost his legs and once that happens...there is no coming back...NY is a deadly place...the organization gives the players too much and for a guy who is in his 30's getting paid an insane amount...there is no better city in the world to live in if your rich.

Heh, heh.

There are many of us. Hockey is a brutal game. You need some folks that can intimidate the opposition into giving your skill guys some extra room....but you do need those skill guys that pop pucks into the net.

I like what the Rangers did in this draft. I wanted Bell but oh well. Again, until Gordy proves otherwise he's got my full confidence. It will be interesting to see how the Rangers fill the need for some bigger, meaner players moving forward.

Hopefully Adam Tambellini can put on about 20 pounds in the next 3-4 years. What is he now? 170?

Yes so do I. The rest of the people probably don't because they can't score goals. Seems like 90% of the Rangers fan base wants small, soft, Euros, who are good offensively.

Just seems that way sometimes. I think what most people want is guys that can play. A guy who is big, mean, and can also skate pass and shoot is almost as rare as Big Foot.

I wish we had gotten Clowe years ago.

You know how this place works, anything that isn't NHL caliber at the draft is a negative. He needed a bit of work, I think it was mentioned as one thing he had really improved on in his draft year over the previous year which would indicate it wasn't always good. Sounds as if it is far improved now though. Which is one thing I've noticed with him, they talked about how quick of a learner he was and I think if they ask him to work on something he does it to the extreme.

Interesting too that he wasn't worried about bulking up, knew he'd get there naturally and didn't make it an issue.

What is the deal with Luke Curadi? 250lbs???

Was a bottom pairing Dman in echl. Average at best skater (average for a 250 pounder anyway). Not all that much talent. But may end up finding a role as just a tough guy. Nothing special as a fighter either however.

He didnt play in the ECHL, looked him up he was playing in the ECAC for RPI

Man not to be a dick but I really cannot believe a random dude posting on the internet about how fat Brad Richards is when all throughout his career he has been known for keeping himself in excellent shape

Sorry man, "my buddy knows a guy who..." is freakin' 3rd hand information

My friend lives in Greenwich is friends with the Cam Atkinson, Wiley Sherman and John Hayden families and has been around Chris Kreider for the last 2 years. He has coach or played hockey for over 30 years and his son is a goalie in college. I have seen text from both Sherman's and Hayden' dad's from my friend congratulating them on their son's accomplishments.

We had a discussion today at work and I was mentioning how disappointed I was with the Rangers and he knows how passionate I am about them and he wanted to throw salt on my wounds and told me about Richards carrying the extra luggage...no need for him to lie or make it up.

So, unlike most of you...I don't come on here and make **** up.

I'd rather have a mean bottom 6 player that may only score 10 goals but brings a lot more to the table than a small and soft bottom 6 player that scores say 16 goals.

I agree.

The first guy is the one that can score the big goal in a tough playoff series. Helps wear the other team down.

The second guy is the one who can look good during the regular season but might be a perimeter player come playoff time.

These are generalizations for sure. What the Rangers really need is a good mix of both. That is what the best teams down through the years have had and this year was no exception. Chicago had skill, but they also had plenty of size and snarl.

I don't think you'll find many who argue against that. What most people argue against is players whose only skill is fighting. No one had a problem with Prust when he was here. If McIlrath and Noreau can play solid defense and punish people in the crease and along the boards, I don't care if they ever fight.

17% body fat isn't letting himself go? Pretty average in fact. I bet most NHL guys are somewhere around 12-18%. 8% is about as low as the body can go while still being healthy. I doubt many NHLers could play at 8% without getting hurt quite a bit. I think he was caught with his pants down last season. Had no faith in there being a season and didnt put in the time during the offseason and never recovered. I think a fresh start with a new coach can be good for him. At this point we need him to be a 3c and I think he can give us 50 points from that position. Is it the 80-90 points we signed him for? No, but its better than nothing.

Beaver isn't going to be the 3c for numerous reasons most of which negative.
