I don't like it, but it's a typical rangers trade by trading away talent and get never will bes in return.
The Rangers wanted a #1 from the Avs for DZ

That was the best asset from the Avs. Not Barrie or McGinn.
Interesting that the Rangers were looking to add another #1.
Yea, Im not complaining. I've always been a fan of steady, stay at home guys who mix it up when the time calls.
What perplexes me a bit is how this acquisition fits in the scope of the Rangers style of play. Seems like he would've been a really solid fit in the last regime. But now? Wasn't the flavor of the month D-men who could skate, jump up in the play, contribute to the offense? I thought they'd be on the lookout for a better version of Del Zotto. This guy looks like quite the opposite.
Did Sather and AV finally succumb to the constant defensive deficiencies that have plagued this team? Did Sather even consult AV? Did he just grab the first guy that was offered up that could be mistaken for a top 4 RD?
As usual, left with more questions than answers thanks to this GM.
A first rounder from the Avs, or a 30 year old defenseman from Nashville. Whoever calls him back first.
A man with a plan.
Avs wouldnt give up their first.
And the point remains, looking for a 1st round draft pick from one team, picks up a 30 year old defenseman from another.
Whats the plan?
To improve the team? Trade an asset that doesnt have enough value for the most valuable return you can get?
In this case he wanted return of either a first rounder or a top 4 RD. He found one.
So acquire an asset that can help the team in a number of years, or acquire one that can help right now. Whatever, flip a coin.

And can we stop calling Klein 30 when he turned 29 a month ago? Thanks

DZ is so bad, his value is garbage. Not a surprise on the return.

yyyyyeeep
don't get it. seemed like they cared more about the handedness of the player than how the player played? unless they think there's more upside there, OR his mere presence will unlock Moores offensive ability and therefore be a net gain.
i still dont get this.
Does this guy hit?
Well, if a 1st round pick is what Sather truly desires, it can still be had if he trades Girardi and/or Callahan. Unfortunately, I think he will be scrambling to re-sign both on July 1.
