What talent did Sean Avery have outside of being an *******?

Well in his first two years as a Ranger before signing with Dallas he went 23-30-53 in 86 games...and 28-37-65 in 104 games including the playoffs. Pretty good for a talentless scrub right?

And then in his first season back after the Dallas debacle he went 15-18-33 in 57 games...not bad.

A real pain in the ass, but he could back it up. A player like him would still have a place in the league...an aggravating jackass, to be sure, but he could still put up good points.

Lappy's not that kind of player. Comparing them is apples and oranges. Has a history with AV, so here's a PTO to give him a bit of a spotlight to raise his profile and maybe have another team sign him. As has been mentioned, Rangers need some extra guys around to push the kids during camp, so a veteran (albeit Lappy...) works for that.

Works for both player and team, and some other guys hanging around might not be ready to commit to a PTO in the hopes that another team may come knocking. If Gagner's still around towards camp, he's a guy I'd offer a PTO to. Still young, has the talent.

At times it seems he's more hated than Matt Cooke or Sean Avery. I could understand why he's disliked because of his antics but he's not a cheap shop artist or an off-ice distraction like those two. And he has decent skills. Hope he make people lie and have a good season.

how you know someone never watched Sean Avery outside of YT clips of him being a clown.

Great point. Sean Avery is in plenty of YT clips for being a clown, because he was a clown. He was able to carve out a career by punching out of his weight class and using his stick like a can opener. I'm going to guess you're a Rangers fan. He was at the height of his stupidity then.

I have a feeling Sean did something to you personally

1) People who don't understand who Sean Avery was other than his antics.

2) People who don't understand (and apparently can't be bothered to read) why he's on a PTO with us.

Just run in and dump your baseless opinions and/or Rangers jabs, the thread. Lol.

I don't knowwhy, but I personally always liked Lapierre. I would even say that as a 4th line player with the Habs, he did a good job.

I scare myself sometimes...

I'd love to see him make the team and then his clock cleaned every game he plays in. That and the Rangers would be a much worse team. I hope he loses all his teeth if he hasn't already.

All Vesey speculation aside:

This is the type of tryout I don't mind seeing.

Team could use some snarl.

Zero risk here, and best case scenario he forces NYR to keep him after a number of forwards return from The World Cup

At what point did I say he WASN'T a clown? Lol

That doesn't take away from the fact that he was a skilled hockey player and an effective one. And no, I'm not a fan of a team that Avery played for.

This is way off on a tangent considering this post is about Maxim Lapierre, but I have to say I have a bit of a problem with the vilification that Avery receives from the NHL (and by extension) it's fans - not because I give a rats *** about Sean Avery, but because of what the NHL (and some of it's fans) deem as "important"

I remember the night after Avery got a 6 game suspension for the "sloppy seconds" comment, I was watching a game where someone (can't remember who - it was a long time ago) tried to put Hjalmarsson's head through the glass - it was clearly boarding and an obvious headshot - the guy got a 2 or 3 game suspension.

That, to me is exactly what is wrong with the NHL. Was Avery a marginally talented assclown? Sure was, and I'll never defend the stupid things he has said or done. But when that comment he made gets a 6 game suspension and a player who could have ended another player's career gets 2 - 3 games - that, to me says that the NHL (and by extension their fans who continue to vilify Avery, while no one - including me - can remember who made that headshot) do not have their priorities straight.

I can't wait until Vigneauly is fired.

Good old boys club Glass and Lapierre wasting contract spots and cap room.

Nice. I missed this face smirking around the NHL. He's entertaining. Can be a quality 4th liner too in the right situation.

The familiarity with AV obviously coming into play here again. Kinda have to wonder how Lappy would be if he does land an actual deal, but isn't in the lineup every night. Maybe he's matured even more, what with his new kid and all?

Tanner Glass must feel like last nights trick. I'm ok with this, give me more guys everyone in the league hates. Funny though how every fan loves their 'punk' but can't stand the other guy's. Besides its a PTO, hope he has enough sense not to hurt anyone in camp.

Coming from a team that employed Colton Orr....what the second you dump your goon, you mount the high horse? At least Pens (Cooke) and Buffalo (Kaleta) fans have the sense to remain mum.

Come back when you have more knowledge about what Avery actually did on the ice. Then you can talk.
