In three years, if the Rangers make no additions and have the younger guys start to take over from their current top guys, will they be better than now? The goalie will still be great. Fix will still be great. But will Trouba, Kreider, Panarin, Mika still be at their current level?
Maybe the Rangers best window to win a
Cup is these next two years?

Trouba and Kreider both have their NMCs end in 2 years, after which they are tradeable. Schneider is the long term replacement for Trouba. Hopefully one of Othmann or Cuylle can replace Kreider's goal scoring. Or maybe Laf can learn to play Kreider's role on the PP. He had a nice deflection goal recently and another goal off a rebound just outside the blue paint.

Our only real issue long term is 2C, and we have limited cap space next year to fill that position. We can clear some space if we trade Chytil and/or Nemeth. Nemeth should be gone regardless.

Short term, we need a RW and maybe a LD. Adding someone like Rakell makes sense. He can score goals, play RW and is on an expiring contract. If we are adding anyone with term, they need to be a center. Preferably, a good 2 way center. We are more likely to address that need in the summer, I think.

Again, we aren't going all in. We should not be treating this as a 1 or 2 year window to win. We are one of the youngest teams in the league and have a bunch of young players who have yet to peak. Older players will be moved eventually, whether they maintain their current play or not. That's just the way it is with the salary cap. Teams need a steady influx of young talent to remain contenders while staying under the cap. Which is exactly why Schneider will not be traded.

This will be the Rangers first year back in the playoffs. We have a very young team and hopefully a long window of contending. We aren't going to go all in now. Add 1 or 2 depth pieces and address the 2C spot in the offseason.
Which of the rumored three fit your mold as a depth player?

Rakell is the closest fit. Miller is obviously not and Chiarot doesn't make sense to me. Our top 4 defense is set. We shouldn't be spending a 1st round pick or more on a 3LD rental.

Remember, we don't have a lot of cap space next year. Odds are, anyone we add will be a pure rental unless they are a center.

Rakell

for

Brett Berard + 2022 Conditional 2nd (becomes 1st if Rangers make ECF) + 2023 Conditional 7th (becomes 2nd if Rangers do not make 2022 ECF)

ie Berard + pick 29-32 + 2023 7th
or Berard + 2022 2nd + 2023 2nd

Don't know enough about Berard, but this seems reasonable value wise.

Too much for a pending UFA who has 54 points in his last 98 games. You aren't getting 3 pieces for him. It will be a 1st or a 2nd and a B prospect (someone worse than Berard).

If Chiarot goes to the Rangers, they are 100% giving up a 1st or equivalent...the fans may not like it but they're also not the GMs

If the only way to get Chiarot is with a 1st round pick, then he isn't going to the Rangers. It makes no sense to spend a 1st on a 3rd pair dman. Whether you think he is better than 3rd pair is irrelevant. That's where he would play on the Rangers.

That's an interesting amount of games you chose... did you watch the Ducks last season?

Panarin and Mika aren’t getting younger. Kreider is having a career year. The goaltending is beyond spectacular. The Rangers should take advantage of this opportunity right now. Two playoffs with Miller right now is wise. In two years will the Rangers be this good?
Wait, the Rangers star forwards are not getting younger? That puts the Rangers at a great disadvantage to other teams whose players are declining in age. Mika is 28 and Bread is 30; neither is on the downside of their career.

What do the ducks want for rakell?

Ducks are a big question mark, if they lock up Lindholm and Manson, but move Rakell would need to replace Rakell and go after an additional Top 6 forward. They also need to add a #4/#5 young D to eventually replace Shattenkirk and to help take some mins from Drysdale who is still developing.

If Lindholm walks, their priority will be to replace him, and they will need to use the assets they get from him and Rakell to find a replacement. Even though Fowler has been very good this season you can’t have him as your #1LHD.

Chiarot will get a 1st. In the game last night, he got a puck to the face, stand up and continue to play and scored the tying goal and then scored the winner in OT. What a warrior.
I hope so for your sake. It will not come from the Rangers.
