Lundqvist started the year 9-8-2 with a SV% over .920. He was on fire. He was vintage Lundqvist. I think Quinn played him to much those first two months because, like most coaches, he wanted to win and Georgiev was playing like crap.

Lundqvist isn't all of a sudden a bad goalie. I think his confidence towards the end of the season was at an all time low, and the reality of the rebuild had set it after our second fire-sale at the deadline.

He may want to still retire a Ranger... Or, he could get moved to a contender and that could rejuvenate his career. We saw that with Hasek.

It'll be interesting to see how things unfold with our goalie situation. It does hurt to see my favorite all time player struggle. Father time is a *****. Doesn't change how I view him though. His legacy won't be tainted.

Toronto needs a backup goalie, why not try to sell them on Georgiev? He did utterly dominate them this season
His value here could be greater than a 3rd~ round pick, or whatever mediocre asset Toronto would be willing to move here.

Until Shesty proves he belongs in this league, we shouldn't even entertain the idea of moving Georgiev, unless there's an offer we can't refuse.

Does anyone know or at least have a hypothesis on why Hank doesn't want to be traded? It can't be because he likes NY so much as a city can it? He can always go play somewhere else for a couple of years and return and live in NYC for the rest of his life.

Taking hockey out of the equation, why would anyone choose to uproot their family if they were happy where they are?

He loves NYC, he loves the idea of only playing for one team, he loves how the 94 guys are celebrated every time they show up at a Rangers event. The Rangers are going to have to make a decision on the two young goalies within the duration of Hanks contract anyway. He’s earned the power to keep himself here, I’m fine with him using it

BTW, lots of talk about loyalty here because people have soft spot for Hank. But doesn't it work both ways? The Rangers made Hank incredibly wealthy. Why don't we want him to help them out as a sign of loyalty?
I don’t think this ‘problem’ is as much of a problem as we’re making it around here

Also they made him wealthy for all the help he’s alrrady done them

Because fans aren't objective. Some think Staal owes it to the Rangers to retire, yet the Rangers owe Lundqvist everything for different reasons.

Can’t wait to see what this kid can do once Allaire gets his mechanics fine tuned. He already has world class reflexes, working on his angles and positioning with the best goalie coach in the world is gonna do wonders for him.

To me Georgiev is just a trade piece that keeps adding value.
Yes maybe they can trade him to the Leafs, he sucked against them tho.

Is it really uprooting if it's for a year or two? I forgot that he had a family though and wasn't a lonely putz like me, haha.
Yea man, you don't get that time with the little ones back. Hank doesn't seem like some psycho athletes who see their kids in the off season and are completely focused on themselves the rest of the year. Being able to see the kids regularly, kiss them after home games, take them to school on off days etc., then to have the family able to come to games and watch you regularly, where your family is recognized and known and treated like royalty when they visit the office of the team that drafted you and took a shot on you when no one knew your name, all of that is priceless to him I'm sure. It's not like he even has to take a financial hit to achieve that, it's all set up perfectly for him, this is what he's worked so hard for. He's not gonna sacrifice any of that for an increased chance at a cup.

And in hockey it really is a crap shoot once the playoffs start no matter the record heading in so it could be all for nothing even if he approves a trade to a top contender. Sure, a virtual guaranteed cup (Colorado and the Bourque trade) maybe, but anything less and no way he approves imo.

Rangers could always just carry 3 goalies if they have to. 20 player active roster, 1 D, 1 F, 1G as scratches

I think it is very possible that Henrik simply packs up and goes back to Sweden.
Based on what? I've seen literally no indication of this being a possibility. It's ridiculous to say stuff like this.

I've actually seen him say in interviews he could see himself playing past his current contract. I don't think it's likely but there's more evidence of that being possible (him actually saying it) vs your conjecture based on...what? The fact that he's Swedish? That we have 2 young goalies? Oh yeah, the notoriously competitive Lundqvist is going to roll over and die and go home and quit instead of trying to prove he's still the best.

no real reason,
i expect Shesty and Georgie to take turns in Hartford, appreciate the time with Bennie and Hank,
and understand its just a step in the process, that '19-20 isn't the season that defines their careers

from what i have seen, it seems to me it is most often the marginal Euro players* who bail on the AHL and head back to the Euro leagues, because they don't believe they will make it in NHL, or that they are not getting the opportunity they expected

even tho we sent him away, its good to see Saarela giving his NA career a ful shot, by working his way up in AHL

* ie recent NYR guys like Bereglazov, Stromwall, Oksanen, Zamorsky, C.Andersson,
Not talking as much about guys who were over-matched from the start Zborovskiy, Ceresnak, Nejezchleb, but even those guys are playing full time back in Europe

I expect the starts next season to be something like 40/27/15 between Hank/Georgie/Shesty. Igor and Georgie will spend about half the season each in Hartford I think. And in 2020-21, I'd expect Igor to be the starter with Hank as the backup in his final season, and Georgie either gone or starting in Hartford.
