This is likely one of those unfortunate side effects of a big regime change and mandate from above, change in direction. Change in direction occurs and valuable pieces just get lost in the mix.

I think that’s a large part of it. I also think it was trending this way though under Gorton. There is just not much patience for high picks. Kravtsov had fallen behind, and was probably on his last season with the team if he didn’t break in. Lias Andersson, a top 10 pick bust from a draft before Kravtsov was traded almost exactly a year ago. That should’ve been enough to know Kravtsov didn’t have long, if he didn’t quickly establish himself.

I'll never understand why the Rangers felt it necessary to move Buchnevich so soon for scraps. Lafreniere, Kakko, and Kravstov were/are very good prospects, but a decision wasn't necessary until a couple of them actually passed Buch on the depth chart. Trading your second best winger to make room for prospects who may or may not pan out is only really defensible if you're actually getting a valuable return on that winger.
You're preaching to the choir.

I don’t believe this Rangers roster would look the exactly same way it does today if not for that incident. I also think Kravstov would’ve had a better chance of making the team, despite a mediocre pre-season.

You don’t follow the team then. It’s well established by reliable sources that these changes were independent of that incident and were due to the whole season.

Our GM is terrible. He sends down Kravtsov who's a promising RW (we're not exactly stacked on the RW...) due to Drury is afraid to lose Hajek who's an AHL player at this point.

The first time we demoted him, he went to Russia.

Now we trade our best RW and then we send him to the AHL because we're afraid someone will pick 2 AHLers (Hajek & Gauthier) if we waive them.

High risk, no reward type of move.

Vitali is full of himself but at the same time it's kind of disrespectful to get demoted by 2 AHLers after all of this.

Send him to Washington and you can have Hathaway for some additional grit.

This is what we in the biz call "backpedaling."
Lol, dude sit down. The first tweet did not indicate any request made by Kravstov's camp. The subsequent ones did.

You were wrong and got proven right by different reporting. Great job. If anyone here is backpedaling, it certainly isn't me.

I'd offer OTT 2nd + Lodin/Tychonick/Novak/Loheit/Engstrand/6th or TB 2nd + any of those guys or a 5th. Would probably go a bit higher if that's what it took, but giving up any other prospect on top of a 2nd would start to sting a bit. None of the above other than Lodin are signed currently, and they may well all go unsigned.. Engstrand is probably the most likely to get an NHL deal but I'd put it as unlikely. Lodin is on loan in Sweden.

I'd take Lias Andersson on my team any day.
I have no idea if you're making names up or something but sure. I'll take your 2nd + some no name prospect at this point.

You're winning this trade, congratulations.

In all seriousness these kids are way too entitled. Not cracking an opening night roster as a 21 year old is not a big deal at all. To pout and have a tantrum and demand a trade over that is hilarious. Probably a guy you don’t want in your Locker room anyway.

He could make at least 5 times his AHL salary in the KHL. What would you do if you were in his situation?
