I don’t even think Dolan knows who jack eichel is. I genuinely don’t think this was anything to do with Dolan and his desire to make the playoffs 1-2 years sooner. I call bullshit on that

My guess is the NHL head honchos were furious with the rangers statement and somehow forced this firing of our GM and President.

I agree with this... It can't be because we didn't make the playoffs fast enough... We knew that wasn't happening as of like 6 weeks ago, and the season is over in 4 days. NOBODY would fire the GM and President 4 days before seasons end. There is no point.

Which means there's something else here, and Dolan made it a point to embarrass these guys. I know he's a nutcase, but I'd like to give him the benefit of the doubt on this one that there's a legitimate reason for it

He has repeatedly begged for jobs that he is wildly unqualified for. He has never coached a real organized hockey game in his life and this egomaniac thought he deserved the Rangers coaching vacancy. He didn't get it and ran off to Edmonton to be a coffee boy or whatever it is he does there. He also thought he was qualified for Gortons job before Gorts had it. He has been hungry for an organizational role with the rangers yet never put in the work to earn it.

I love him for winning us a cup. He was one of the best rangers of all time and no one is arguing that he doesnt deserve his number hanging in that special place in the rafters. He can either start coaching/managing at a lower level and work his way up or he can kindly f*** off and stop publicly begging for every important job vacancy this organization has.

I get it... tarnished his reputation after his playing days. That sucks

Intent to injure has never been a part of the game.
Checking and physical contact has always been to separate someone from the puck.
fighting is penalized, but accepted as a method of policing. Within that there are unwritten rules such as never hit a guy when he’s down, if you hit someone dirty, except to answer the call.
The game has also changed significantly since Marty mcsorley.
We watched careers destroyed by cross checks to the head, headshots.
Dops is supposed to separate clean hits that cause injury and targeting blows with an intent to harm.
Fighting is intent to injure, if you do it correctly.

If they bring in Messier in some "advisory role" I'm done with the Rangers. That's the way Dolan ran the Knicks into the ground with Isiah Thomas and his meddling/roles.
I’d happily bring him in as an advisory role. It would give him some experience that he needs if he ever thinks he will get hired as a GM.

This is sacrilegious and I won't give back the 94 cup, but as someone who was 7 when we won it and not really a fan I sometimes wonder if it was worth the headache. Mark Messier and that 94 team has taken this franchise hostage. It's been 27 years please God let's let it go already. 90% of the players on the Rangers weren't even born yet.

So I'm of two mindsets on this.

Messier was paramount to turning this franchise around. There's no getting around. There's pre-1991 and there's post. It changed the way the franchise was viewed, and I honestly think Leetch, Richter and company don't become the players they are without Messier.

Having said that, he has done zero of the work since retiring to seek some of the positions he's been connected with. Not as a GM, not as an assistant GM, not even player development, or scouting, or other areas. Literally, he's been a consultant.

It's very easy to come out there are say, "I wouldn't do things that way." That doesn't take a stroke of genius. The stroke of genius comes with actually making it work, or having a plan, or having a track record.

Right now, Messier is essentially a political candidate without a voting record. We can project all of our hopes and dreams, or fears and nightmares onto him. There's little to judge it against.

But, Dolan operates a very specific way. And that way is based on whims, and mood, and tantrums. It is not based on logic, or a measured approach, or research.

And that combination, at a critical time, is damn concerning.

Additionally, this season with the division we were in, 5th place is slightly above expectations.

I missed something on messier? how could any of us bash him especially in this way? Did he kill someone or something?

Have you seen the shitshows when other unqualified GMs have taken positions in the league? How about Gretz's tenure as coach?

Great players =/= great coach/management.

Sakic and Yzerman worked their way up into those positions.

he’ll be the coach within a year and GM soon after if he steps foot into the building. He has no credentials for the position and has done nothing since retiring. It’s the NHL so wouldn’t shock me if he was President within 2 years. Zuccarello could be a Ranger again

Plot twist... Gorton didn't agree with Dolan's statement, therefore wanted to fire him. JD stepped in and said no, so Dolan fired them both. Enter Drury
Yup, this is what has been speculated for the last half of this thread, and is one of the two most plausible theories floating around at the moment.

Dolan reminds me of someone I can't name on this site.
